I find it kind of inspiring that the players are doing this. A moving public statement of solidarity. _________________ "Every time we witness an injustice and do not act, we train our character to be passive in its presence." – Julian Assange |

Good mix of articles.
I get both sides of the argument. Interesting that the bloke who started it seems to have been ostracised from the NFL while others are carrying it on.
I'm not a fan of disrespecting the national anthem, when it's not a federal issue as such. The Police they are protesting are county employees with potentially less training than our Sheriffs.
It's a good cause, is it the right way to go about it? It's certainly got attention which means it's effective at starting a conversation. Whether it's the right conversation or not is also up for grabs. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

Top US basketballer Lebron James lays out what's going on quite eloquently:

Lebron James, absolute superstar, had the pleasure of watching him play for Miami heat in Florida back in 2012, and he puts his money where his mouth is, putting thousands through college, and doing s lot more besides.
And of course Trump being Trump, trying to shut it down with no class at all. I wonder how Obama would have dealt with it.
Interesting to see if there are any stats since Trump has been in power, has anything changed? _________________ You cant fix stupid, turns out you cant quarantine it either! |

Well, Aaron Rodgers threw his first pick-6 since 2009 and his first ever at Lambeau Field. That's probably the single most newsworthy thing that's happened in Green Bay, Wisconsin since Trump took power. |

It's interesting hearing him talk about how American kids look up to the president and look to him for guidance. We really don't have that here – people almost grow up with a default mistrust of our leaders, which is probably more of a healthy thing than not. It sounds like the US is going through a hard but necessary loss of innocence right now. _________________ "Every time we witness an injustice and do not act, we train our character to be passive in its presence." – Julian Assange |

There was a white bloke who stood in solidarity with the black power salute way back in 1968. The Arthurs and the Judys made sure he never represented Australia again... |

Yep, Peter Norman bravely chose to stand in solidarity with his fellow athletes.
This is very different from someone saying that Peter Norman must stand in solidarity with his fellow athletes or else he is a white supremacist. |

Just more proof of our ever more polarised societies, I fear. This sort of fracturing usually doesn't end well. _________________ "Every time we witness an injustice and do not act, we train our character to be passive in its presence." – Julian Assange |

utter crap that article. Not all Black players are kneeling. are they white supremacists? maybe them, their brothers, fathers, etc have fought for their country, or maybe they are police officers. Same goes for the white dudes that stay on their feet.
:However, Alejandro Villanueva, a Pittsburgh Steeler and U.S. Army Ranger veteran who deployed three times to Afghanistan, left the Steeler’s locker room to go to the field to show his respect for the anthem, the flag and those who have served, are serving and who have died defending the American way of life.""
the shame belongs to his fellow players, all colours who did not stand next to him and maybe thank him for his service. thats just my opinion!
its not just blacks getting taken down by a Cops shaky nerves or prejudices, maybe the problem is much bigger than that. Get rid of the guns and the cops might not be so edgy when they pull someone over, or someone reaches for their wallet.
not sure what a privileged black dude not respecting his flag is doing to help the problem. instead i prefer they highlight the good so many of them do behind the scenes. its about as useful as throwing a pretend spear at opposition supporters! you get more bees with honey.
and as an aside, i always stand for the Anthem at the footy, and it always leaves a lump in my throat, and oh man when you hear a full stadium US crowd sing their song, and pump out their chests, its fricken awesome! they literally rock the place. dont spoil that. and i know some wont get that, the anti US brigade and all, thats ok! i love it!
God save the Queen!!
