Don't forget we were 5-10 with the lowest injury list in the comp.

Here is just an observation with no malice or agenda - did we perform better once a few of those injuries occurred and we replaced with those that were considered not first 22, as well as changing some players positions e.g. Reid to forward line??

We seemed to play better when Pendles went out of the side.
We were more direct.
We played 3 or 4 terrific quarters of footy.
The rest looked 'same old same old' to me.

FWIW, I believe that the absence of Pendles and our clearly superior play were simultaneous but independent events. I think that if Pendles had been available, playing him as a midfielder would have improved the quality of our recent play.

A very good performance overall against a desperate club.

Adams - make him captain now. He's an inspirational leader and the way he's lifted his game in Pendlebury's absence is commendable. Good again yesterday.

Sidebottom - typical Sidey game. Ran hard, got into good positions, generally used the ball well and a couple of baffling decisions.

Treloar - I still think he's carrying an injury, but he was pretty good.

Maynard - Like the team, he started on fire but faded a bit after. Still a good game and no "*&*&ing Maynard" moments.

Phillips - knows how to find the ball, just needs to get a right foot and learn how to stick a tackle.

Howe - Typical Jeremy game. Very solid.

Elliott - won us the game with his first quarter, second quarter was good, unsighted after but the damage had been done.

Hoskin-Elliot - for all the crap we've deservedly taken for Wells and Mayne, this is one we've got dead right. A smokey for a top 5 finish in the Copeland.

Grundy - not far off AA level at the moment. Just needs to speed up a bit of his decision making at times.

Broomhead - I think we've been patient with this guy, I think it's just about time to delist / trade.

Aish - solid. He'll never be a star or a high possession winner, but if he keeps playing like that, he'll at least be worth a spot in the team.

Brown - hard at it, but needs to work on his composure and disposal.

Langdon - solid and reliable. Seems to have eliminated some of the horrific decision making of his earlier years.

Scharenberg - just dismal. I think he lost every 1 on 1 contest he was in, including ones he started in a favourable position. It'll be hard to increase speed, so I'd say he needs to bulk up.

Moore - OK. I like him in the ruck. Maybe a move to the backline might be worthwhile.

Cox - There's something to work with as a ruck / forward. I doubt him, Grundy and Moore can play together long term unless Moore moves back.

Thomas - hasn't been good since his return. His hands seems much worse and he struggles to find the ball.

Daicos - Worth persevering with. Doubt he'll ever be a star, but he might significantly outperform his draft slot.

Goldsack - Didn't get much of it, but great tackling and pressure. With a glut of similar types, I'd say this might be the end of the road, though.

Kirby - Maybe there's a reason he didn't get a game until now. He's still very young, but he clearly wasn't ready yesterday.

Incidentally WC are about to win by a big enough margin to knock the Dees out for the year... so maybe we have knocked them out Wink

^ Or not.

This is going down to the wire. Eagles in the 8 on the live ladder by 8 points, late in the last quarter.

The Wiggles made it. Great effort, 'Pies!

Percentage doesn't matter, of course.

I'm feeling dirty
Wrapped with the win but to think we contributed to West Coast getting into the finals makes me physically sick.

Don't worry - the chances of Darling taking a pack mark in the dying seconds to seal the result at any other venue are nil, zilch and zero. Port will flog them by 938 points.

Half of my family (mum's side) are Melbourne supporters so I feel for them. I've always had a soft spot for them that will probably horrify most of this forum.

West Coast will get smashed against Port in the elimination final.

Hope you're right. I can't stand WCE either. Wish we had knocked off Melbourne by one point now.

True that.
My focus from here on in is to hope that the Eagles are humiliated to the extent that the club never recovers and they merge with north Melbourne and have a home ground in Iraq.
