Diana Prince: They came to the conclusion that men are essential for procreation, but when it comes to pleasure... unnecessary.
[Steve gives Diana glasses to wear]
Etta Candy: Really, specs? Suddenly she's not the most beautiful woman you've ever seen?
Diana Prince: What is that?
Steve Trevor: That is a watch.
Diana Prince: What does it do?
Steve Trevor: It tells the time. It tells you when to sleep, to eat...
Diana Prince: That tiny thing tells you what to do?
Diana Prince: I used to want to save the world. To end war and bring peace to mankind. But then, I glimpsed the darkness that lives within their light. I learned that inside every one of them, there will always be both. The choice each must make for themselves - something no hero will ever defeat. I've touched the darkness that lives in between the light. Seen the worst of this world, and the best. Seen the terrible things men do to each other in the name of hatred, and the lengths they'll go to for love. Now I know. Only love can save this world. So I stay. I fight, and I give... for the world I know can be. This is my mission, now. For ever.
Queen Hippolyta: Be careful in the world of men, Diana. They do not deserve you. You have been my greatest love. Today, you are my greatest sorrow.
i dunno, its kind channeling Scarlet Ohara in places!! _________________ You cant fix stupid, turns out you cant quarantine it either! |

Wow!
^Logan was different, in a good way. I liked it.
Thought it'd be really cheesy when I was hearing about the daughter and a couple of other things that were to happen, but they handled all that really well.
^^^^Dr. Strange was a bit of a risk for the big movie studio, going with a less well known comic-book character in a big budget movie.
Again, I thought they'd melt cheese all over it, but was suitably impressed with how they handled most elements. Will be interesting to see the personalities of the Dr. and Stark interacting in the next Avengers. |
reckon ill have to have a look at wonder woman, interesting review:
http://www.providr.com/tiny-detail-in-wonder-woman-goes-viral/2/?utm_source=Shared&utm_medium=facebook&utm_campaign=providr
and no im not shallow or insecure enough for it just to be the jiggle! its the whole gist of the article!! |
"The Author" needs to extract their head from their own fundamental orifice.
I'm looking forward to watching it because it's a DC hero, I've always liked Wonder Woman as a superhero and all the bullshit yap analysis about gender shits me to tears. It's a fkn movie FFS |
Not to mention a fundamental misreading of "male gaze" theory, although she's not Robinson Crusoe on that. The idea that there's a fundamental difference between how women are shot in female-directed vs male-directed films has no basis – it ignores factors such as a) where do gay male and lesbian female filmmakers fit into the picture?; b) what is the input of producers, cinematographers, costume designers and so on; and c) most importantly, that, even if all straight men looked at women the same way – which they don't – there may be more to a director's shot choice than pure, unfiltered expression of libido.
The original theory of the 'male gaze', developed by academic Laura Mulvey, was that everyone, male or female, is conditioned to see through it. It's possible to disagree with that, of course, but I'm not sure how many people invoking the phrase these days have even read her essay or understood what she was talking about. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

Thanks for explaining, David - I didn't know there was a movie called "Fist Fight", so I read that a whole other way. |

A whhhhoooolllle lot of overthinking goes on in some places....
I would've watched Wonder Woman regardless of whether Gal Gadot or Whoopie Goldberg played her. Wouldn't have fallen in love with Whoopie 43 times over that 2 hours like I did with Gal though.
Dyso, have you seen it yet??
Stui, Swoop, and/or anyone else, TP? , are welcome to play.....
a) Gal Gadot - or - Linda Carter??
b) That skirt thingy - or - The blue hotpants??
c) 2 hour movie every six months or so - or - half an hour episode for approx 10 weeks in a row??
d) A frown or scowl as a go to close-up - or - The beaming smile as the signature look??
Whilst never a big "Friends" fan, I remember an episode about "celebrity leave passes". Gal Gadot would have to be mine at the moment. *drool*...... _________________ "I am a great sage, equal of heaven.

^ Oh yeah, good to see how they averted the whole 'male gaze' thing by not picking a conventionally (stunning) attractive female actor in the lead role and dressing her in a grey smock. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |
