I've got a generalist background. to say it's hard to measure in those roles is by no means an understatement, however if you're a HR generalist supporting a decent snr manager, they know if you're any good regardless of being able to objectively measure it.
Giving direct public feeback to a very snr manager who's staff were shit frightened of him because he behaved like a prick was one of the hardest things I ever did. I was shit frightened too but somehow my mouth opened and words came out before I could pull back.
The satisfying part was when he looked around the room while I was talking and took it all on board. Legit. It took a while a a few other interventions not from me, but he became a damn good people manager and i didn't get my arse removed for speaking up so it all worked out well. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

^ prickfulness is only skin deep, with some people, and it sounds as though this bloke was more decent than he appeared. It's sometimes the case - but public feedback is always risky. it's hard enough to do what you did one on one, let alone in public.
Big organisations, being partly about power, attract a higher than average proportion of people on he upper end of the psychopathy continuum. HR can also play a role in locating these people and helping to excise them before they do a lot of damage. if a good HR person matters to the CEO, I always think good HR should matter even more to the Board.
Anyway, yes, I agree that a good HR person is fairly easy to spot when you get one. _________________ Two more flags before I die! |

In my experience, HR departments are very good for corporate companies.
Not so much for corporate employees. _________________ #TEAMBUCKS

Amazing and inspirational woman ^^
Happy today as the red headed chicks netball team won today. 40 to 11.
The opposition was missing their normal centre and goal attack but our GA shot the lights out from all parts of the circle and the girls managed to play a full 4 quarters and not have one of their normal 2nd half fade outs.
Apart from the red headed chick having to come off at half time because she was going to puke. She doesn't do well in the heat on asphalt courts & had already umpired 2 games beforehand. Ice packs for a qtr and back on the court without any whingeing (which is good for her).
3 wins and 1 loss so far and loss was to the top team who are way better than everyone else. _________________ If you are foolish enough to be contented, don't show it, but just grumble with the rest. - Jerome K Jerome |

I found the crocodile tooth necklace I bought in Port Douglas last year.
Must have been through that bag 20 times, thought i'd left it in Cairns, then found it this morning. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

4 months: wow.
I'm looking forward to a break.
We're driving to Adelaide - I hoping to ride 95 km in the coast to coast ride from Glenelg to Victor Harbour.
Realising I haven't done any training (apart from riding to work & back 30km round trip about 4 days a week) rode to Mornington & back this arvo from South Caulfield. (Oliver's Hill is far better riding down than up).
Anyone know where I can get a pair of knees? _________________ “I even went as far as becoming a Southern Baptist until I realised they didn’t keep ‘em under long enough” Kinky Friedman |

But try doctor Reuben Branson, was Collingwood doctor in 2010, I get a yearly shot of synvisc one in each knee from him, its miraculous the way it shuts down aches and pains! Way cheaper than new knees! _________________ You cant fix stupid, turns out you cant quarantine it either! |
