Just for a bit of fun and to see how attuned we are to our club I'm going to start a 2017 predictions thread and we can bring it alive seasons end and see who had the best predictions and who failed badly
Ok so here's mine
2017 wins - 9 to 11 (a lot will depend on our injuries and who's injured for the opposition when we play them. We could get 12 wins if things fall right for us)
2017 ladder position 7 to 10
Leading goal kicker - Elliott with 35+ (Moore and White both over 25)
Copeland - Treloar
Copeland placings - Treloar, Pendlebury, Grundy
Highest Brownlow place - Treloar top 10
Best 1st year player - Daicos
Best new recruit - WHE
2017 surprise performer - Dunn (would love to say Scharenberg)
2018 coach - Nathan Buckley
Ok now your turn |

I predict we will finish between 5 and 10 on the ladder.
Sticking my neck out I will go for 6th.
Still can't see us making the big dance anytime soon. _________________ we don't eat our own at collingwood we just allow them to foul our nest. |

We have arguably the best midfield, with some decent midfield depth due to last season. I feel Pendles is never going to have a better chance to win a Brownlow with Grundy feeding him. Our defence is inexperienced as a collective group, but have to think Dunn stabilises things. We might actually have a forward line this year.
Either way im excited to see something like this:
B: Ramsay, Dunn, Howe
HB: Langdon, Reid, Scharenberg
C: Varcoe, Adams, Wells
HF: WHE, Moore, Sidebottom
F: Fasolo, Mayne, Elliott
R: Grundy, Pendles, Treloar
B: De Goey, Crisp, Aish, Maynard _________________ ------------

I posted on an earlier thread my belief that we have markedly improved our bottom 6-7 players which is where the good sides make a difference. Increased maturity and a reasonable run with average injuries and, I firmly believe, we can make the 8. Prediction - 5/6. Remember the glass is always half full. _________________ No one needs to get hurt, it's only business. |

Just copying most of what qldmagpie said:
2017 wins - 9 to 11 (a lot will depend on our injuries and who's injured for the opposition when we play them. We could get 12 wins if things fall right for us)
2017 ladder position - 9th replacing Richmond in their usual spot
Leading goal kicker - Moore 35+ (no one else will kick over 30 goals)
Copeland - Treloar
Copeland placings - Treloar, Pendlebury, Grundy, Crisp, Varcoe
Highest Brownlow place - Treloar top 10
Best 1st year player - Browny (even playing half a season he will romp in)
Best new recruit - WHE
2017 surprise performer - Aish, Keeffe and Thomas
2018 coach - Nathan Buckley (who resigns because he can't achieve his objective of making finals and the board talks him out of resigning much to the chagrin of a few people on this board)
Starting team of 2017 (same as qldmagpie):
B Ramsay Dunn. Howe
HB. Varcoe. Reid. Smith
C. Aish. Adams. Wells
HF. WHE. Moore. Sidey
F. Elliott. Keefe. Fasalo
R. Grundy Pendles Treloar
Int. DeGoey. Crisp. White. Maynard. |

Sadly, I'm a glass half-empty type.
2017 wins - 11
2017 ladder position - 10th
Leading goal kicker - Elliot
Copeland - Pendlebury
Highest Brownlow place - Pendlebury
Best 1st year player - Son of Rowdy
Best new recruit - Dunn
2017 surprise performer - Wills
2018 coach - Sir Scotty Burns
Starting team of 2017
B Ramsay Dunn. Howe
HB. Maynard. Reid. Smith
C. Aish. Adams. Varcoe
HF. WHE. Moore. Sidey
F. Elliott. White. Fasolo
R. Grundy Pendles Treloar
Int. DeGoey. Crisp. Greenwood. Phillips
Like Mackasmatt, I'm concerned that the defensive group is very inexperienced as a group i.e. they have played buggerall games together. _________________ Side by side. |

Also, 2 of them have no discernible talent (I'm not quite sure how this still happens after we got rid of Williams and Frost - but there you are), one is a high half-forward and the best of them typically plays about 5 games a season because of his injuries.
I'm excited. |

Hard to say, a fair few things have happened in between this year and last.
We may turn the corner, we may not... but regardless in the end I don't think we have the capacity to actually challenge for a genuine finals spot.
Going on past form, with maybe a small buff due to the above any where from 7th to 12th. What I'm worried about is that the fundamentals will be the same in the coaching box.
I'll predict 9th. |
