In terms of who we've been linked to, according to Paul Amy, we're really keen on Norwood key defender Michael Chippendale:

We have become quite good at holding onto the bulk of our players over the last few years. Whether that changes because of relationships some players may have built with Tapping that they don't have with Rivers remains to be seen, but no news is good news on the existing player front, I guess.
If we can hold the likes of Hellier/Still/Pendlebury/Kelly/Gray/Howe/Smith together, we will have done well and will have plenty of good backup/assistance for the VFL in 2017... |
Magpie Bat - a well educated crusader on VFL matters. Some handy info to add to your vast library of resources. AFL Standalone teams in the VFL operate with a salary cap of $165k. _________________ supercoach captain type work |

165k?
Has that amount been reduced in recent years? Because my understanding was that the 250k cap applied across the comp. _________________ I am vengeance. I am the night. I am MagpieBat. |

Thanks for the intel.
All the more credit then to the club for being able to attract the players that they have over recent years and being able to retain most of them... _________________ I am vengeance. I am the night. I am MagpieBat. |

^ we'd have less players to pay given a bulk of them are already contracted at the afl level.
in other off season news, our illustrious gm is heading to the neafl as its operations manager. we're on the hunt for a new vfl gm. _________________ Purveyor of sanctimonious twaddle. |

Any truth to the rumour that you've already been tapped for the job on the back of your outstanding tenure as Nick's coach, sadly cut short by a palace coup...? _________________ I am vengeance. I am the night. I am MagpieBat. |

We've found ourselves a very good operator to replace the outgoing very good operator Luke Gatti:
Quote: | Chris Dixon will step into the role of General Manager VFL in place of Luke Gatti, who has recently accepted a position as Operations Manager in the North Eastern Australian Football League (NEAFL).
Dixon was General Manager at the Williamstown Football Club between 2010 and 2016.
During this time, he oversaw the Seagulls’ 2015 VFL premiership as well as their Foxtel Cup triumphs in 2011 and 2014. He also played a part in the development league side’s premierships in 2013, 2014 and 2015.
Part of Dixon’s role will involve working with Collingwood’s AFL player engagement department. Dixon created and managed Williamstown’s player engagement program, which assisted in seven Seagulls players being drafted into the AFL ranks.
“Chris is a wonderful addition to our football department” Football Operations Manager Marcus Wagner told Collingwood Media.
“His vast experience working at such a well-respected VFL club, and the success that came with it, will no doubt be of great benefit to our football program. He also has proven ability in getting the best out of young players, both on and off the field.” |

We've also shaken up the VFL's coaching panel somewhat...
Quote: | Further changes to the VFL set up see Jamie Cassidy-McNamara and Ryan Power move into positions as assistant coaches.
Cassidy-McNamara will oversee the VFL backline. Currently the club’s Academy Coach focusing on Skill Acquisition, his role will be adjusted to accommodate this change, and will provide a depth of knowledge to our VFL program, as well as having access to our young developing AFL players on game day.
Power arrives from VFL club Frankston, where he worked as an assistant coach for the past three years.
Prior to that, he coached VAFA club Mazenod for two years after time as a player at St Bedes-Mentone (VAFA), Donvale (EFL) and Port Melbourne (VFL).
He will oversee the VFL team’s forward line.
As previously communicated, Jared Rivers has replaced Dale Tapping as senior coach of the VFL program, while Brad Gotch has joined as an Academy Coach, looking after the VFL midfield.
Further to this, Tarkyn Lockyer has been promoted to the position of Head of Academy.
Lockyer will oversee the football development of all AFL listed players, working closely with the aforementioned coaches team and existing Academy Coach Anthony Rocca. |
"Academy Coach" is becoming the new buzzword/catch phrase in football, I see... _________________ I am vengeance. I am the night. I am MagpieBat. |

Nope.
If the pattern of the past holds up, the list won't be finalised until after at least the first couple of practice matches. _________________ I am vengeance. I am the night. I am MagpieBat. |
