Im not sure exactly what transpired last year except that he was injured early and it was openly spoken about him leaving the club and coming back to Melbourne. With the talent on GWS list I wouldn't be playing him either if I were them.
I watched him closely in the two NEAFL finals he played. He was a class above, looked to be physically harder at the contest and seemed to do whatever he wanted. He could be a real smokey this year.
In saying that, we need to let him settle into the team, system and environment. Accept he may be a little quiet early and let him find his feet - there are enough examples recently in rushing to judgment on new players. |
Top post. Really looking forward to seeing WHE playing in Collingwood colours _________________ Don't confuse your current path with your final destination. Just because it's dark and stormy now doesn't meant that you aren't headed for glorious sunshine! |

Given our position on the draft lists, we had to take chances if we were to get any good players. So we had to look at those with little experience, injuries or question marks over some of their attributes in the hope that they would learn, recover or reform so that their estimated abilities could show through. To play safe would ensure that progress was not made. The policy is a long standing on, that has seen successes like OBrien, Wellingham, Toovey and even Swan become outstanding players from speculative picks. There have been the partial successes like Marley Williams, and the outright failures like Manamara, but the club has persisted and it is the right thing to do. We have to accept the failures as part of the process.
As others have noted, the big risk this time was the discarding of teh poor disposers without the assurance that we could find find equally talented contest winners who could kick to replace them. I'm not sure that we have covered the defensive losses that the policy created, but we may have.
I find it interesting that of all of the 2010 players that we have let go, only Heath Shaw has really done much. You would have expected that Beams and Thomas in particular would make us regret their departures. They may still do so, but it looks as if the judges at the club knew what they were about with those decisions. _________________ We have won every grand final until the replay has been watched. |

Heath Shaw is the obvious standout amongst the departed premiership players. Beams has been hampered by injuries but still won Brisbane's best and fairest in 2015.
I was confident that Thomas' best days were behind him when he left and joined Carlton. His ankle injuries had severely hampered him to the point that he became the shadow of the player he once was. Almost can't blame him for joining for the amount of money he was offered plus he got to reunite with Mick. _________________ | 1902 | 1903 | 1910 | 1917 | 1919 | 1927 | 1928 | 1929 | 1930 | 1935 | 1936 | 1953 | 1958 | 1990 | 2010 | 2023 | |

Hasn't exactly come on in leaps and bounds in year 1.
Our first pick this year McLarty also missed most of the season with injury I gather.
On balance, more speculation than not in our drafting in recent times I think. |
Booted out of the Northern Knights?? Can you back that up with evidence??
