Sorry, but little sympathy here. Tuddenham Thompson Fothergill, Frank Tuck Nathan Buckley, Richardson brothers, Peter Moore - all worthy premiership winners except it never happened.

Not to mention Bobby Skilton, Tony Lockett and a flotilla of Footscray champions. If you want a premiership medallion play for Hawthorn...

A worthy champion though.

Champion player and arguably Fremantle's greatest in their short history.

Should have retired at the end of last year, but I can't say a bad word about him as an outsider.

Been a great player for Freo.

He had his chance to win a flag and they lost. What can you say?

They really should have made the Grand Final last year too, but they folded to the Hawks at home in Perth.

We should have seen an all-Perth Grand Final in 2015. That would have been great. With the two most recent Brownlow medallists too. Bloody stupid Freo!!

Like so many teams and players, they've gone begging.

I wonder if Pav would have played on if he knew what kind of season they were in for? Or if he'd won his flag already?

350+ games is a great achievement. You'd think he'll hold on to the Freo record for some time.

A media role beckons.

I was thinking that earlier....

He went pick 4 in 1999. We took Fraser with pick 1. (Leigh Brown went pick 5).

Funnily enough, Freo had 3 of the first 5 picks that draft. They got Haslebry at #2, Pavlich at #4 and Brown at #5. Richmond took Fiora at pick 3.

Cant laugh too hard at Richmond, we took Roach at pick 7. (Although we made up for it with Ben Johnson at pick 62).

Looking back, we'd obviously rather Pavlich over Fraser, but Josh was still good in his prime. If only we took the 02 flag.

If the 99 draft was re-done, I think Josh would still be in the top 10 players drafted.

Then we look to when Pavlich was available to trade. We went for him. And pretty hard from what I can remember. I dont know how close it came, but we made several attempts over his career to bring him over.

McClelland Trophy (Fremantle) 2015 (C)

And he is about to play game number 350.

No flag, sadly. Perhaps we could have won a few together? We still would have needed a ruck though.

Dont think he should have been in the 02 AA team either. Particularly at fullback.

What could have been Pav, what could have been......

The lunacy was trading pick 3 (and Clinton King) for Steve McKee and getting pick 7 back in return. McKee couldn't get a game behind Gale and Ottens at Richmond, while Frawley badly wanted King because he rated him from his time as Tony Shaw's assistant. A simple swap of players should have been the end of the matter.

We weakened our bargaining position by unceremoniously kicking Monkhorst to the curb, thereby leaving us without a recognised ruckman (who, picked up in the PSD by St Kilda, would have made for a handy bodyguard for Fraser and McKee). And if we still needed a ruckman for the short-term, the delisted Matthew Burton would have been an adequate option for a late selection.

But then, Judkins would probably have wasted pick 3 on Roach anyway, hard as a broomstick as he was for him...

Gee, when you think of how close we were in 2002 & 2007.

What difference would he have made in 02/03? Would we have been a finals team in 04/05? Would we have been a chance in 06? Would we have taken it out in 07?

I guess its difficult to say. I mean one different ladder position in any season changes the draft order for that year, which would begin a complete different history. They there's the question, does one player really make that much difference?

I dont know, but the thought of him in our forward line during those years makes you think... what could have been! Shocked Sad

I don't know what "skullf*cked" means, but I'm going to assume it's something unpleasant.

But yes, the disastrous decisions of that period still haunt us to this very day...

Oh yah mon, 'tis ugly indeedy.
Imagine the Bears trying to man up Rocca, Tarrant and Pavlich [and Molloy] in 2002 Grand Final? Good luck with that.

I assume you've dropped a ruck in this scenario...?

Well I still think we should have played hard-ball and not caved.
McKee for pick #7 was more than adequate and reasonable.
Fraser still was too slight to compete against Keating by himself.

Molloy was the last player included to this team, as he was vice captain.
His one and only grand final appearance was putrid.
He would have been the 2002 hard-luck story [behind Jason Cloke].

What we've all failed to see is that we landed the real star of this draft when we got Leigh Brown. What a gem he became.
