It's not fish that I want, but it does have a tendency to smell the same. Razz

You clearly need to get out more. Flathead trumps them both for southern salt fish. But if you really want to try some great fish try some nice coral trout or cobia or some nice salt run barra.

Redfin just about tops them all.

Agree.
Redfin is the only fish that you should not scale.
cook with the skin and scales on and it peals off perfectly when cooked.
With the imminent demise of the carp next year with the release of the specific disease to wipe them out, Redfin should once again be plentiful.

I grew up on the Murray but never liked fish (growing up, mum made me eat this horrible smoked cod stuff every Good Friday which turned me off all fish) so I never tried Murray Cod or Redfin, but dad swore by both of them.

However in recent years I've been trying some fish. I like Barra and flake, can't stand smoked Salmon.

Oh man I could live on salmon, smoked, grilled, sushi grade, and it's sooooo good for you!

Try the hot one, you won't notice the fish taste!

I had tried fishing once as a kid, we went up the East Coast of Tasmania and we had my uncles fishing rods. We had some lousy cheap bait so we didnt catch anything even though there were fish in the water, we were watching them swim about and they had no interest in that bait. Haha.

That reminds me of the days (1980's) my cousin and I would go up to Geraldton on our school holidays. Surfing by day and spearing cobbler at night.

We'd put on our gum boots, grab a; torch, bucket and gidgee. Walk along on the sheltered side of Seperation point in water around 300mm deep. There would be cobbler everywhere feeding in the shallows, it really was like taking candy from a baby.

Anyone else felt the sting from a cobblers spike? OUCH Shocked

Smoked cod from africa.
You had to boil it twice because of the salt content.
Smells like sh..it
But strangely I don't mind it.
Still can buy at the preston fish market

Sounds like a fun trip, thankfully I've never experienced a sting from a cobbler.

My dad would go fishing with my aunts husband from time to time, once it was a very rough horrible day. I was only young at the time, and got a bit scared with the rough waters and all. They came back with some crayfish, a family friend does a lot of crayfishing around now. He cancelled his last trip because it was too rough.

He came to the footy with us instead.

The very last time mum was going to cook that stuff I was in my early 20's and had gone home for Easter, I told her, nicely, that if she put that shit on to cook I was going to the pub for a steak dinner and would come home once the smell had gone.

She got the hint.

It really is an iron stomach meal.
Not a meal for the faint hearted or even for the yuppies.
A meal from the depression I reckon.

I do have a cast iron stomach, but I'd only ever eat that again at gunpoint.

I love throwing my rod in when I can. I don't really care what I catch either. As long as it's wet and I get to kill it quickly, I'm happy.

I'll just show myself out now....
