Keep playing Cox
he will have a breakout game soon.
Play White on the wing with spells down back or forward.
Give Smith or Phillips a break.
White id athletic and Mason is just huge.
Give those AFL created Giants something to worry about.
Never going to beat them with a standard team and a standard setup.
One of my great criticism of Bux.
He doesn't or hasn't shown any flair or risk behaviour. _________________ we don't eat our own at collingwood we just allow them to foul our nest. |

Fas and Tay in from that list, provided Adams has done the work and they're happy with the hammy. Happy to play the rest in the VFL.
Not going to try to pick who goes out.
In other changes I'd be hesitant to play Grundy one out against Mumford. He's a strong MOFO and would chew up Moore, Cox and White so I'd be tempted to drop Cox and bring in Witts. Play Witts at the centre bounces as first ruck, Grundy coming in off the wing or half forward line and taking over the ruck around the ground as a follower while Witts drifts deep forward until the next centre bounce.
Cloke as the high tall forward, Moore roaming around inside the 50. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

How is this for a "way out there idea" put Witts in the Ruck and have Grundy as a ruck rover accompanying Treloar and Pendles. The old Stanley/Blicavz trick. _________________ I love the Pies, hate Carlscum |

We tried this a few weeks ago against the Dees and it was disastrous. |

Why can't we play Cloke on a wing. Would free him up, take pressure off him to kick goals and be something GWS probably won't plan for. White can play forward. _________________ kymbo |

White has the pace and athleticism to play as a medium sized player whereas Cloke doesn't. It'd work if GWS agreed to play a KPD up on a wing on Cloke but could be exploited if they instead went for a Griffin or Patfull type. |

Didn't you guys see us try this and fail dismally against Gawn from the Dees? |

Against the Dees our midfield group was smashed and we had less delivery in our forward line. When we did deliver we missed sitters and when that happens you look top heavy and slow and a big smile comes over some of our "perceptive fellow" supporters.
To take on the Mummy at centre bounces I like Stui's idea of dropping Cox for a more physical presence in Witts . As much as I like Mason, Grundy at this time of his career needs help to take on Mummy for four quarters. With Witts resting up forward Cloke would have to get on his bike and with Moore on the other, as long as they keep out of each others way could provide some good targets.
Now it will be up to our mids to win their fair share of the pill if we are going to be competitive. |

If you look at the figures GWS are outstanding at clearances and run and carry. They are also good kicks with a low number of clangers. We really need Adams back this week and I would prefer the mobile and in-form White over Cox. I think Phillips can also have a spell.
I would ask Greenwood to tag either Ward or Shiel - interesting match up. The other tag we need is to lock down on Heater. He has never liked the close checking player.
To have any chance the Pies must close the game down and not allow a free flowing run and gun game. Coniglio is the close checking mid and will probably play on Treloar.
This is a fascinating test for the coaches to engineer a competitive style that asks plenty of questions for the Giants.
Ultimately though the Giants have too much goal scoring power whereas we struggle up forward - cf Green Johnson Cameron Scully Lobb v Cloke White Blair Moore and ?? _________________ Daicos, impossible angle ... Goal! |

Yeah. Didn't work. The only way to make it work is developing both Grundy and Witts as forwards, so that when one is rucking, the other can rest in the forward line. You just can't alternate the two ruckmen off the interchange bench. Maybe at some point of time in the future it will work out, but not yet. It takes time and games of experience before rucks work out their roles and no amount of intensive coaching makes any difference. |
