Post subject: Social club? | |
|
I visited the Holden Centre for the first time since the redevelopment on Anzac Day, and I was disappointed with what I saw.
Cafe area is too small.
I didn't get the opportunity to see the restaurant/dining area due to a club function.
The club was also cooking outside, along with a bar.
Compared to what I remember of our Victoria Park Social Club, I am not impressed.
This goes along with the crap merchandise and membership packages we have also been receiving since the change to Star Athletic.
Are the Pokies laws very strict in Victoria?
Vic Park had pokies if I recall.
Clubs in the ACT/NSW make squillions out of poker machines. _________________ Social club member 7342 since 2000.

Is anyone satisfied with the membership packages or the social club facilities? |

Similar to Steveh67, I visited the club on ANZAC day and I wasn't sure where the alleged Social Club facility was. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

up the stairs and to the left. it's where the balcony is along the wing, the main function room. _________________ Purveyor of sanctimonious twaddle. |

Total opposite to me. I love the facilities at Holden Centre and am proud to be a Collingwood member. I love the cafe at the Glasshouse as well. Meals are good value. I wish the coffee was a bit better though. |

I'll give it a squiz after the Carlton game when the VFL is playing there, assuming we beat Carlton. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

The Social Club and the whole set up of the Holden Centre is what I consider to be the root problem of what is wrong at the Club.
It is nothing other than a boutique little up market joint.
Eddie has been taken out of Broady and Broady has been taken out of the Holden Centre.
Look at the balcony that over looks the training field.
Holds about a handful of guests.
No beer barn!
No pokies
No nothing except a converted Corporate function centre.
And that is exactly what it is.
A Corporate function Centre that doubles as a so called Social Club.
It is a place to make money for the club.
As for the whole centre ....yeah you can buy a coffee and a 100 dollar top.
But it has no soul and it will be a ghost house 95% of the time.
Thanks Ed. _________________ we don't eat our own at collingwood we just allow them to foul our nest. |

sitting at a pokie machine is very social, isn't it? i am glad we have no pokies and we don't need a beer barn. head to crown or one of the club's pubs if you want that. _________________ Purveyor of sanctimonious twaddle. |

Screw pokies. Plenty of places to go lose your money if that's what floats your boat, I'm happy if we don't have any. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

I don't live in Melbourne so I don't know the answer to this. But how do our facilities compare to those of other clubs? Are their social clubs any better than ours? |

I am not a gambler either, and very rarely play them.
But, it would be a money spinner for Melbourne based AFL clubs. _________________ Social club member 7342 since 2000. |

one thing I am jealous of about Richmond (the only thing!) is they get to have a few cans at their traditional home ground after a match. they dont treat their supporters as an inconvenience |

We have pokies in the pubs we own. that's more than enough.
Apart from the fact that I'm not a big fan of them, paying the licence fees to put them in the Holden centre would be dumb. You'd need to pay staff to have the place open when no bastard would go there unless there were events happening close by. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |
