Bruce Springsteen
Elton John
Travelling Wilburys
U2
Billy Joel
Models
Split Enz
Cold Chisel
Aus Crawl
+ So much more. 80s for mine are a close 2nd to the 90s. |

I agree the (first half of the) 80s were great. But all of the artists you cite (all of whom I like very much) are products of the 70s or earlier. _________________ Spiral progress, unstoppable,

Sorry Stui, I had to quote this.
Have you heard Springsteen at Hammersmith in '75? Double live CD. Electrifying performance. He had it all together a long time before the 80s. I hope you're not referring to Born In The USA, the most misinterpreted album, probably of all time? _________________ Spiral progress, unstoppable,

They may have been products of the 70's but that wasn't the question. Their music in the 80's was their best after they learned their craft.

I don't misinterpret it.
Born in the USA is a lot like Khe Sanh, it's hardly a blank patriotic rah rah song. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

If you could randomly designate a decade from 1966 to 1975, that would probably be it. But as we can't, I'm going to go with the '80s. Consider these bands:
The Smiths
The Cure
Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark
The Pixies
Depeche Mode
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
The Jesus and Mary Chain
New Order
Flock of Seagulls
There was a lot of rubbish, too, of course. But if I had a time machine, this is where I'd go. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

If I was offered the chance to go back to the 80's. in my body then, knowing what I know now, I'd do it in a heartbeat. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

Seeing as how nobody has much nice to say about the '90s, I'd like to throw these artists in for consideration:
Radiohead
Bjork
Nine Inch Nails
Neutral Milk Hotel
Portishead
Weezer

Very true! *wipes forehead with relief*
I forgot ELO & Supertramp
Seems most of us are within a 20 odd year period. Kinda says something I reckon.
Metal in the 80s was huge wasn't it?
For the 90s Grunge, Britpop and the rise and rise of Hip Hop/R&B were prominent; the latter still is.
I'm gonna have to check out Neutral Milk Hotel David, at least I've heard of the other artists you mentioned. _________________ Spiral progress, unstoppable,
