Yes, sad to see the tradition go by the wayside. And yet another massive over reaction from the A.F.L.Apparently they're worried about the possibility of two Perth teams playing off in the grand final, and then having a draw in the grand final. What are the odds of those two things happening at the same time?A thousand to one? |

if it were the two perth teams playing a draw then a replay disadvantages both equally. _________________ Purveyor of sanctimonious twaddle. |

The 2010 replay gave wonderful opportunity to the average member to witness there side play off in a grand final ahead of the corporate set many of whom have no vested interest in the result.
It's how all grand final crowds should be but alas will never be witnessed again. _________________ He's mad. He's bad. He's MaynHARD! |

I get why they've got rid of the replay, but I would have kept it.
The replay in 2010 was the peoples grand final, minimal corporates and cheap access for any type of member meant the crowd was mostly fans of either competing side.
A drawn grand final involving 2 teams from the same non Victorian state would have been the perfect opportunity for the replay to occur outside of Victoria. |

Crap decision by the AFL.
I guess from a Pies point of view, I have to ask that if this rule was brought in from the beginning;
1. Could we have won 1977?
And
2. Could we have held on in 2010? _________________ A Goal Saved Is 2 Goals Earned! |

if it wasn't for the draw I wouldn't have witnessed my one and only GF. As someone else said... overreaction. Almost zero tradition left now. _________________ Side By Side Forever |

I reckon if we had have played extra time in 2010, we would have lost. We were just about out on our feet. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

No way. Cloke would've kicked the winning behind from 20 out directly in front. |

here here. I experienced my one and only GF (winning) thus far courtesy of the draw. I only had a basic season ticket at the time which obviously doesn't qualify you for GF's but the draw meant that all members had equal access to tickets because less corporates were granted tickets.
I remember the MCC members not being full though and couldn't understand why you wouldn't go out of your way to fill it up with real supporters who would've happily paid the money to sit there..
Anyway, it was a day I'll never forget - especially Heater's smother on the llama running into an open goal. That was the GF won right there. That pivotal moment which turns everything.
It's a shame the replay has been disposed of now. It's unique and only ever happened 3 times in the entire history of GF's which means the likelihood of it ever happening again would be very rare. |

The only way my son and I could see a grand final together was the replay. _________________ A strong man stands up for himself ... a stronger man stands up for others. |

While I can understand the reasons behind this decision one little thing I already don't like is that if the game is still drawn after extra time it then becomes next score wins.
Surely it should at least be next goal wins. _________________ He's mad. He's bad. He's MaynHARD! |

This is one of the most mind-bogglingly stupid sport administration decisions of all time. How to seriously shoot yourself in the head, AFL.
Those wonderful drawn grand finals in 1977 and 2010 were unforgettable classics; twice-in-a-lifetime events any sane sport would sell its soul for; and the rematches were worth every minute of the nail-biting week that led up to them.
This is the most important game of the year. If undecided, it deserves a proper full-on rematch.
Shame, AFL, shame. _________________ Let's eat Grandma. Commas save lives! |
