Oscars table, docklands
Mexican with a twist, food was pretty good, staff and atmosphere fantastic.
Cudo have a voucher at the moment, I bought the 4 people for $98 one, we went Saturday night,
Salt and pepper calamari for starters (bit salty for me, but everyone else loved it, I liked it, just needed more sangria!) the guys had lamb meatballs, for main I had beef fajitas, really good, two had fish, the fourth a steak, and the meals are a decent size, I was half full after the entree, I have away half my meal! Desert I had churro's with milk and white chocolate dip, oh man so good! Others had sticky date and a lime brûlée. Plus you got a glass of either sangria or beer each!
We shared an extra bottle of wine, really great night for all up $138. _________________ You cant fix stupid, turns out you cant quarantine it either! |

Went to the Bridge Inn Hotel in Mernda today, took mum, the son and his GF. Been there before and it was reasonable, today wasn't their good day.
Stuff up with the ordering system meant we waited over an hour for the meals, and it's not like they were busy. They gave us a free round of drinks in apology but I would have just preferred the food. Until it came.
It should be difficult to futterly uck up a pub classic like a steak sandwich but they did.
Firstly they put it in ciabatta bread which had the texture of pork crackle without the flavour, which had everything hanging out of the edges as the bread was too small.
Then they serve it on a wooden board rather than a plate, with the chips in a little mini metal basket. Trying way to hard to be trendy.
The bread was rock hard, the steak was way over cooked and leathery (mum couldn't eat it and she can do things to a good piece of steak that should be criminal) and the filling was barely warm.
The ingredients had promise but the execution was woeful and using ciabatta bread for anything other than a side should be punishable by multiple ciabatta suppositories.
I gave them 3 stars on Yelp only because the schnitzels were good without being great and when I've eaten there before it was far better, so I was being generous and assuming today was an off day. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

Sounds like they were having a bad night but ciabatta bread on a steak sandwich is strike 1 2 and 3 as far as I am concerned!!!
The juices (if any) get trapped in those air-bubbles and the whole thing turns into a watery sludgy mess before you can say "I don't like this, take it back!" (You can say that and 90% of the time they will do just that).
An hour to produce a steak?
No wonder it was dry and leathery!

I've been going to and loving this place since it opened few years ago.
Willy makes THE best pies* I've ever eaten anywhere, anytime.
The atmosphere is relaxed and the staff are a lot of fun.
*$7 for an Aussie beef pie (prime mince, a little onion, gravy and selection of herbs, nothing else) cooked the night before and baked in the morning and served with a chutney relish or sauce ($2 extra if you'd like some salad**.)
** or so I'm told.

Did you say something to them? I would have given the food back! Doesn't matter what it costs, it still should be eatable _________________ You cant fix stupid, turns out you cant quarantine it either! |

Nah, I didn't say anything, I ate it, and then I say something on here and on Yelp. I'd already waited for an hour, by the time I'd decided it was poor quality I'd already eaten half so I just kept going. I wasn't going to pull out, ask for something else and be sitting there for another fkn hour after everyone else had finished.
I don't like sending food back, I've only ever done it a couple of times, generally when the rare steak I ordered still has the jockey's whip marks on it and it's been served cremated. They can't rework an overcooked steak into a rare one so they have to give me a new one, but it's never a good idea to piss off the cook. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

Geez the food in the mess is muck, can't wait to get home in the morning and cook myself up a nice big steak and some Shark Bay king prawns I've got the missus thawing out right now;) _________________ Don't count the days, make the days count. |

Been there before and thought it was rubbish. I never add table salt to anything and had to add it to everything as it was all flavourless. Also took ages and when I went there was probably 2 other people in the place (so quiet when I stood at the wait to be seated sign, I said to the girl "table for 2 please, but we don't have a booking" - she didn't get the joke )
I did however continue my dining at the Herald Sun's top 10 steak places in Vic recently. 3rd sampling was the Steak Ministry in Glen Waverley. omg, this place was awesome. Lamb rack for entrée was falling off the bone - literally, picked up a rib and the meat slid off with no assistance from cutlery. Then the medium rare scotch for main - how delicious! While I'm at it - the first one from the list we tried was Mr Jennings in Richmond. Didn't like it, they marinade the steak in some weird flavour that made me feel ill, even when the people on the next table had their steaks delivered, after we'd finished, and the smell wafted over. ewww. Not recommended.
The other one we've tried was the Longhorn Saloon in Carlton. Great steaks once again, good service and good little set up. Nice window seats so you could sit there in the afternoon and people watch. Will go back, if I'm in the area. http://www.longhornsaloon.com.au/

If you happen to get up to Tocumwal, couple of recommendations.
Toc Gold club. Bistro is pretty good standard tucker. Nothing too swish, good honest food.
Went out there on Friday night for mums Birthday. I had Fillet Mignon, rare, the boy had a parma with chips and salad and mum had the lamb roast.
The roast as do a few other meals come in a full and half serve. Mum really enjoyed it. Boy liked the parma but couldn't finish the whole meal.
The Fillet mignon was cooked well. It specified it came with roast veges and steamed veges, I asked if I could swap the steamed veges for some salad and they obliged with no issues
Palms Hotel is the one right in the middle of town, opposite the tattersalls hotel. It has a good size beer garden right in front where you can sit and watch the world go by. Good quality standard pub tucker
Terminus Hotel is the one down near the bridge and the railway line on the west end of town. Restaurant quality food, really good. If you want to go there for dinner, call and book
Kelly's pub as it's known is on the east fringe of town. Has a good rep but I haven't eaten there in years so can't vouch for it, likewise the Tatts (opposite the Palms) seems to attract a few people but again I haven't eaten there. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

The yanks have brought out a tv series called food porn/ Wankers taking photos of restaurant meals. You can't smell or taste so what is the point. No doubt some deep thinking Australian producer will come up the same idea. I look forward to the day when a perfectly reasonable business is sent bust by these idiots and the owner goes postal and kills a few of the diners taking photos. _________________ Annoying opposition supporters since 1967. |
