Awwwww, you clucky old chook. Razz

But serious, apparently as it mentions in the article we're putting them through a serious screening process and prioritising families.

I'm happy with that.

^Oi you enough of the old!!

I am not usually taken with rug rats - but they have been living in a refugee camp for several years - so it must be exciting and wonderful to know that they will have their own place soon and be able to go to school, play outside without fear of being bombed or shot and well be just like all annoying noisy rug rats Razz

I am very glad we are taking families from the camps Cool

Greens show their true colours: No refugees in their inner city havens.

Greens vote against proposal to place refugees in unused buildings in Rozelle

Alicia WoodState Political ReporterThe Daily Telegraph

The old Rozelle Hospital at Callan Park - knocked back as a resettlement site.
NIMBY inner-city Greens have voted down a plan to resettle refugees in unused buildings at Callan Park in Rozelle, despite their federal counterparts priding themselves on campaigns to boost Australias refugee intake.

Leichhardt Labor councillor Simon Emsley this week called on council to approach the state and federal governments to create a permanent refugee welcome centre on the site of the former mental hospital at Callan Park, and to create temporary accommodation to increase the Syrian refugee intake in the inner west.

All four Leichhardt council Greens representatives, Rochelle Porteous, Craig Channells, Daniel Kogoy and Michele McKenzie, voted against the proposal.

Mr Emsley said he was shocked the Greens voted against a plan to resettle refugees in Rozelle, and to provide a permanent welcome centre: Given the committed advocacy role played by prominent national leaders of the Greens Party, I had assumed local Greens councillors would have thrown their full support behind the idea of the inner west playing a practical role to support refugee settlement.

Greens councillor Rochelle Porteous said she and her colleagues were prepared to support Mr Emsleys plan, if it also contained amendments that included writing to Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and Opposition Leader Bill Shorten calling for an end to mandatory detention, all asylum seekers to be processed onshore and be permitted to stay in the community on bridging visas with the right to work while their refugee status is determined.

The Greens amendments also included writing to the government to close offshore detention centres and to stop children being locked up in immigration detention, and to call on the federal government and opposition to work towards peace in Syria and other areas of conflict in the world.

It is very poor politics to even imply that and Im very disappointed in him.

However, another motion, put up by independent councillor John Stamolis, that included these amendments was also opposed by the Greens.

Ms Porteous said Greens councillors were not informed the amendments had been added to Mr Stamolis motion on refugees and claimed the meeting was poorly chaired.

LISTEN TO MIRANDA DEVINES PODCAST

Labor Mayor Darcy Byrne accused inner-city Greens of being like Reclaim Australia, after representatives of the anti-immigration party stormed a council meeting this week.

CALL FOR REFUGEE HUB IN INNER WEST

On the same night Reclaim Australia crashed a council meeting, the Greens have joined forces with them to oppose having asylum seekers in the inner west of Sydney, Mr Byrne said.

Ms Porteous yesterday rebuked Mr Byrne for implying that there is any association between the Greens and Reclaim Australia.

It is very poor politics to even imply that and Im very disappointed in him, she said.

Sounds like those cretins belong back in the student union.

Prefer to express their outrage by writing letters demanding things that aren't going to happen rather than actually doing anything helpful.

Extremism is the issue intolerance and prejudice add to it. Narrow minded thinking led to a leader like Abbott - a little further down the track with more of the same divisive thinking can easily lead to the election of a despot like Hitler!

A way of life destroyed: Intimate photos of relaxed Sunday lunches and playing by the pool give a rare insight into life in the once-beautiful Syrian city of Aleppo before it was laid to ruin by ISIS thugs

(yes sorry David Daily Mail)

Although I think that headline is deceiving as much of the damage seems to have resulted from Syrian army airstrikes pre daesh. It looked like a beautiful city wish we had gone when we were over that way - damn!

Anyway happy to have these folk here!

^ indeed, so sad. To have reached a level of peaceful , rational civilisation like that and have it ripped apart by thugs who have no law but power is heartbreaking.

Syria, like Lebanon before it was a jewel of the Middle East. Western adventurism, Cold war bullshit and religious nonsense and tribalism have destroyed some wonderful countries and cultures.

Those who were pushing the Arab Spring uprisings and trying to destabilize and unseat Assad are ultimately to blame in Syria. Didn't take a genius to see what would happen after the chaos wrecked on Libya.

So, as a libertarian, you'd never join a resistance movement against a brutal dictatorship?
