Good show old man. Pip Pip and all that
One thing about this whole wearing bed clothes (pyjamas) outside is, if that's somehow acceptable, what if you sleep naked?
If I stroll down to the local bottle shop on Saturday morning to buy a packet of winnie blues and a 6 pack of Jim Beam and cola for breakfast in my birthday suit (plus mokkos and sunnies) is that acceptable because that's what I wore to bed ? |
I could tell you a story about a young man, a Sunday morning, and a religious caller. But I won't. _________________ Let's eat Grandma. Commas save lives! |

^ Wow! A Nick's poster who knows the difference between "role" and "roll"! How extraordinary!
Oh, wait - it's Luvdids, who being fully able to read, write and punctuate, isn't really a proper Nickster.
But before I take of my Grammar Nazi hat, riddle me this:
If this place is called "Nick's" and Mr J. Smith is called "Smith", then to indicate something belonging to either of these entities, we add an apostrophe, n'est-ce pas? Hence, "Smith's essay" or "Nick's' posting rules".

Aww, thanks. I am, however, still ashamed at using the wrong 'bare/bear' in the guns thread. I blame... well, I can't blame anything.
I think you forgot an F though.... As for the riddle, I have no answer. My only thought was does Nick's actually own the rules? Are they something that belongs to this website? Or are they just rules? |

It's not necessary to add another apostrophe, if you treat is as a compound-noun. That is, "theses are the {Nick's posting rules}". |

I'm not sure which "you" this refers to! If you mean Luvdids, she can speak for herself. If you mean me, I must admit not knowing the rule. I have always simply avoided it by re-phrasing a sentence or just using a single possessive apostrophe 'coz two looks weird.
On checking with the redoubtable Grammar Girl, I see that this is a common and probably recommended strategy. http://www.quickanddirtytips.com/education/grammar/double-possessives
Edit: cross post. She did spoke for 'erself! _________________ Let's eat Grandma. Commas save lives! |
