^^^ Yes - and I am a big fan of Witts and didn't think he did enough. He was far from Collingwood's best.
I have commented before that I think the list of VFL "bests" on the Collingwood web-site is done by the media guys and seldom correlates with what actually occurred. The better way to second guess what we think we saw is the coaching-staff's report (which typically becomes available Tuesday or Wednesday after the game). |

The Collingwood media people seem to do the individual VFL player reviews now also. _________________ He's mad. He's bad. He's MaynHARD! |

Thanks for the commentary MB and thanks to everyone who posted their reviews on the match! Disappointing to lose but the last quarter did sound like a cracker however.
From what I can gather, Kennedy was probably our best player but no one really put their hand up for senior selection next week against Richmond. White seemed good until we couldn't get the ball into the forward line in the final quarter and Karnezis doesn't seem to be putting his hand up for selection despite impressive stats in recent games.
The most disappointing thing to hear is Seedsman's almost non-existence in the game! I suspect his time is nearly up at the club to be honest but maybe I'm over exaggerating but on top of rumours emerging that he might be leaving, the club doesn't seem impressed with his form recently despite the huge potential and talent he possesses if he applies himself properly. _________________ | 1902 | 1903 | 1910 | 1917 | 1919 | 1927 | 1928 | 1929 | 1930 | 1935 | 1936 | 1953 | 1958 | 1990 | 2010 | 2023 | |

LOL.
So Karnezis with 30 disposals and 143 DT points can't crack it for our best 6.

He did a lot of give and get, which doubles your possession tally. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

Go read the comments from Tapping.
You must of been watching a different game. |

We were certainly watching a different game from the Collingwood Media Team - if you look at the document properly, you'll see that you're reading the "Collingwood Media Player Review" - thus, Tapping is quoted at the start of the article but the comments on individual players aren't his comments.
Witts didn't take a contested mark that I can recall, dropped quite a few marks around the ground that he should have taken and put little physicality into the contest. As a consequence of the last of those problems, he got a lot of "hitouts" but, for the most part they were cleared by the opposition (hence, eg, Bastinac completely demolishing us) and he didn't impose any physicality on the contest.
There is, of course, always room for disagreement between posters but, in this instance, you haven't seen a whole bunch of Nicksters who were in attendance rushing to disagree with the view that Witts didn't do enough. Maybe it needs to be said again - I want Witts to succeed. I think his immense size and strength and his mobility for that size make him a better long-term prospect than Grundy (just my opinion) but, really, he need to use his power to crash contests and, at the moment, he just doesn't. If he keeps playing the way he did on Saturday, then he just isn't a senior ruckman.
Thus, I maintain the observation that "Witts kicked a lovely banana goal in the first but didn't impact the game much after that. At his size, he needs to learn to use his body to control the contest physically or he will not take the next step."
The other comments in this thread after the game concerning Witts, from a variety of people who were there, are that:

From what I saw I will second that review.
Sums up the game I saw.
I will add that I thought Caff was good given it was his first game back. |
In specific reply to your first observation that Witts'd been named in the best: thompsoc wrote: | Well I didn't see him do that much.

Witts struggled against Orrong Stephenson, who is a large unit, but competed hard all day and did a few nice things, clunked a few good marks. |
And, finally, a word to the wise: if you want people who go to the VFL games to express their views about what they saw for the benefit of those who didn't attend, don't shoot the messenger. |
