Post subject: Marsh to make his mark | |
|
Assuming that Jonathon Marsh finally gets his chance to play this week, after starring in the VFL for much of the season, I suspect he may turn out to be the best of all our debutants this year. Although being a relatively low draft pick, he has a wonderful physique, being big and strong, is incredibly quick, reads the ball well and is a terrific mark. The one question mark has been his disposal skills, but I've noticed this area improve dramatically this season. Last weekend he delivered his 20 disposals at an amazing 95% efficiency, meaning that 19 of his 20 disposals hit their target. That tells me his kicking can't be that bad! More importantly, he plays tough, committed football and takes the game on, often pushing opponents away and then blitzing away at full speed. He could well be the X factor we've been desperate for. Who knows, maybe in time he'll end up as the forward we're desperate for, given that's what he came to us as. |

When we picked up this kid I was hoping that what you described above is what we end up with.
Before being drafted from what I read this guy was very raw but was tough and had a great deal of speed and natural talent. Decision making and skill needed work. In all but the last two areas he was as good as anything going and many speculated that he was in the top 10. To pick him up in the 70's was a bonus.
The two top picks from the 2013 draft have played one AFL game in total due to injury. Langden has been fantastic but we need a whole lot more from this particular draft to even consider it successful when considering the picks we had. So far the 2014 draft has proved to be the better of the two for us despite the players being younger. Marsh could be the diamond in the rough. |

Word has it that the deal is done - Marsh will debut this week barring something unforeseen. |

but has he signed up yet? I heard he prefers the weather back in WA and his girlfriends' old man owns a brewery. _________________ Formally frankiboy and FrankieGoesToCollingwood. |

Good on him if true. From the few games I caught of his this year he certainly has a little agro about him. Would love to see him get a spot for a few weeks. _________________ No Pressure, No Diamonds

I have been impressed with Jono Marsh all season and am surprised he has not yet debuted in the AFL team, but this week is surely the time to do it.
He reminds me a bit of Mark McClure, Carlton's champion of the late 70's and he started his career on a back flank before becoming one of the games better CHF's. Jono Marsh could turn out to be the missing link from our Forward line although I don't expect him to be played there this year.
imo he should be started in the back pocket on Saturday against the Scum and given every opportunity to provide the sort of drive he has done so well all year in the VFL, albeit a huge step up to AFL level. He has the physical attributes to make a go of it. Lets hope he is a great success!! Go Pies! _________________ Collingwood Domination. Envy of the Nation! |
