RIP Rowdy Roddy
This tribute from back when he retired is as relevant now as any.

I was so sad to hear about this, reading everything about Piper I can see he was a beloved figure that gave a lot of time back to the up and coming wrestlers and was a true gentleman. He had it all charisma, in ring talent, ring savy, he could tell a story and he could keep you hooked on his every word.
His Pipers Pits segments were legendary, my favourite Piper moments came when he arrived in WCW in 1996, and went after Hogan the work there and then the trip to Alcatraz and making everyone believe he was crazy was amazing. It was funny it was a compelling feud and since I have Superbrawl 7 now I am going to watch it again and remember Piper.
He was a very good actor as well, dad enjoyed his work as an actor.
Rest In Peace, Roddy.

It wouldn't appear so, he seemed to be pretty fit.
Though the strain on the body from the old wrestling schedules they used to have would have seriously added to that I would imagine. There were days in the 1980s and early 90s that they'd almost wrestle every night. _________________ Ðavâgé

Well that sucks immensely
He also starred in John Carpenter's film "They Live". Well worth checking out if you haven't seen it.

He's been fairly busy in the movie/TV industry.

Interesting it looks like he just played Oscar Wilde in a movie called "The Green Fairy" which i'm guessing is Absinthe related, which is in post production ATM. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

He was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma in 2006, apparently just in time. In 2014 he said he was clear of cancer. Thing is though, as anyone who knows anyone who's been through cancer, the treatments can take a big toll on the body, so who knows? _________________ You cant fix stupid, turns out you cant quarantine it either!

He did admit to steroid use a few years back as well. More for getting over injuries than for bulking up, obviously. _________________ I hold a cup of wisdom, but there is nothing within. |

A lot of the wrestlers through the 80s and 90s were using some drugs to recover from injuries sadly they would work a lot of shows back in the 1980s. Jake Roberts explained in an interview what he needed to do to get up in the morning, to go to bed, to recover, etc.
It is believed the tough wrestling schedules has lead to many of them becoming drug dependent leading to their pre-mature deaths. _________________ Ðavâgé
