We have no elite players under 23! None!
We have potential and that is it!
Take DeGoey. To me he fumbles, butchers the ball, can't kick goals and
takes the wrong option.
Now he may end up a great player, but there is nothing there yet that I see.
And this is my point potential does not equal current reality. _________________ we don't eat our own at collingwood we just allow them to foul our nest. |

Kind of reminds me of 2004-5 rather than mid-late 1990s. The current situation isn't as bad as the late 1990s.
I personally feel that the future promises much. Time alone will show if there is deliverance on those promises.
Responding to the good times takes little to no effort. Responding to adversity takes a great deal more effort than reacting.
Let's see how the club responds to the current situation. It sure won't react and we can all be thankful for that.

Good article by Mathew Lloyd re Clarkson
In the Sunday Age.
I wonder what he would say about Bucks?
One thing Lloyd said was that Hawks are the best kicking
side he has seen.
Now how would we rate our kicking? _________________ we don't eat our own at collingwood we just allow them to foul our nest. |

I'll clarify. I meant talent. Not proven talent. But high draft pick, left footers, kids with larger reputations than when the older players were recruited. I'm talking the kids we picked up when we decided our developers players wouldn't delver another time and we sacrificed the short and medium term for the longer term. _________________ Magpies love pies(Lol) |

Yes, you're right - but thompsoc has been on this particular bandwagon since Grundy, Kennedy and Broomhead didn't each get 40 disposals and 6 goals in round 1, 2013.
The rest of us know what you meant - class doesn't come from going to the well repeatedly with pick 45 or 55 (although that does happen, as evidenced by Langdon, who is - of course - the elite exception that proves thompsoc's rule); it comes from getting as many low-picks as you can and then recruiting the best players you can.
That strategy is, in my opinion, indisputably correct. Where I agree with thompsoc is that the proof of that particular pudding will be in the eating. Where he and I disagree is that he wants the pudding served sooner than I think is reasonable to expect. Not everyone can be like Sidebottom and just walk onto the field and star from game one. Even Dale Thomas (who was, at one time, elite) took 5 seasons to get there: he always looked like he had great potential but the flashes of brilliance only turned into consistent output in 2010. Cloke didn't play much solid footy until his third season and didn't really hit his straps until his 7th. Pendlebury got there sooner but, like Sidebottom, he's got special gifts that most humans lack. |

Without doubt Buckley's position will be reviewed at the end of the year.
Without doubt Buckley's contract will be extended at the end of the year. |

The problem is the valley of death!
In my previous posts on Hine I have said the last recognised A grade player
Hine got was Beams at pick 29 in 2008.
Since then in 6 years no A graders have come through the Hine way!
NONE!
Everybody believes you need 6 to 8 top A graders to win the flag.
And if you are not getting one or two new A graders a year then you will slip
down the ladder.
Hence our continual slide.
Now we have some very good new players in Langdon and Marley but both are not quite there.
We have a boatload of potential good players.
But my point is it is results not potential that counts.
I have been a lone voice about Hine for a long time and
have copped a tremendous backlash.
But my position is gaining traction with a few other posters.
I will say more on recruiting at the end of the season. _________________ we don't eat our own at collingwood we just allow them to foul our nest. |

I am a huge fan of Buckley and believe we are still on the right track to a premiership with him at the helm. Who else would be a better option?;
1. Clarkson - Has a good record with a great Hawthorn team, but like some other I don't like the man.
2. Ross Lyon - No thanks
3. Paul Roos - Has not done that well at Melbourne yet. No thanks.
4. John Longmire - So-so.
5. Damien Hardwick - average.
6. Either of the Scott brothers - maybe.
7. Mark Williams - To old but would be great to have as an assistant.
8. Alan Richardson - maybe
I don't think Ed will ever sack Bucks so bad luck to those Buckley haters, since Ed has the job as el supremo for life. _________________ Collingwood Domination. Envy of the Nation! |

People misunderstand me about Hine.
I think he is an ok recruiter. And this current round
of rebuilding may yet win us a flag.
But my problem is the attitude of posters here who
proclaim that the man is a genius, a messiah, the greatest ever
All summed up in that great slogan " In Hine we trust"!
If he was so great he would have steered us thru this valley of death
But he has failed miserably at that. _________________ we don't eat our own at collingwood we just allow them to foul our nest. |

Buckley is contracted till the end of 2016 already.
No need to extend his contract this season and why would you if the losses continue?

2 year extension or else we go into next year as Carlton went into this year with Mick. Too much pressure for a developing team. |
