About eight grand in Oz dollars. Hmmm. As threatened, I had a quick look on the politics/economics shelf just now and I see that I have one of the eleven volumes listed, to wit The Rise of European Liberalism. So that one should be worth about one eleventh of the omnibus, plus a bit because it's a single volume, minus a bit because it's a slightly battered paperback ... call it $500, but for you, TP, I'll be extra kind and let you have it for a purely nominal $350.
On opening the flyleaf I discover that it isn't in fact mine at all, it is my mother's and she paid a princely $1.00 for it Mary Martin. She's a very nice lady, TP, I reckon she'd give it to you for no more than a couple of hundred. Shall I give her a call? _________________ Let's eat Grandma. Commas save lives! |

Read Orwell's "As I Please" columns from the late 1930s, notably "Laski and the managerial revolution". He said most of what needed to be said about the well-meaning but unlamented Mr Laski and his contribution to a miserable cul-de-sac of British Socialism.
I have absoltuely no idea what boxed sets have to do with him, however !!
Edit : Orwell also minced Laski in the majestic essay "Politics and the English Language"
2nd Edit - my bad... the essay was titled "James Burnham and the Managerial Revolution"... it dealt with Laski, from memory, but he was not in the title. memory plays tricks. Lots of scathing references to Laski in the "As I Please" columns Orwell wrote for Tribune in the 1930s and 1940s. It may have been the Soviet-supporting Laski that Orwell had in mind with his withering aside about "those Left-wing intellectuals who are always somewhere else when the trigger is being pulled". _________________ Two more flags before I die!

Over $5,000! 2nd hand on Amazon for just over $3,000! I've emailed the seller to see if the price is right! I was going to suggest starting at 50-60, might need to add a zero!

Ebay and Amazon aren't the best places to get a true valuation.
Try ABE books.
A note of warning, they are modern reprints (not first editions) probably published for university students who ditch or on sell them for a fraction of the new cost once their courses are over. They sit in the book shop generally do little more than sit on a shelf gathering dust.
If you want a more accurate appraisal post the titles (and by who and when they were published).
I'll do some research & find you the best place to sell them (if I can). |
Cheers for that! I'll get you all the info! Thanks heaps xx _________________ You cant fix stupid, turns out you cant quarantine it either! |

WOW!!! (was I wrong).
Don't sell it on Ebay, there are far better options! |
Um yeah, that's it! Gees..... Junior will be stoked!
It's spanking brand new, which is weird cos the pages are that thin old fashion yellow stuff! The box it comes in is in mint condition too, it even had the cardboard around it with the bar code. Funny doesn't say macmillans publishing! I think I found it in one of the offices. _________________ You cant fix stupid, turns out you cant quarantine it either! |

That stuff was quite common once, young TP. We used to call it "paper". _________________ Let's eat Grandma. Commas save lives! |

MacMillian's are are a specialist bookseller, Routledge is the publisher.
If you want to flip quickly I'd offer it back to MacMillians (don't tell them where you got it) or approach a specialist bookseller and sell it through them (most likely on consignment).
Try Justine at Grub st books.'
