Apparently the scare campaigns are working in a recent poll, a significant proportion of respondents listed 'ISIS' as the biggest single threat to Australia.
In a rare moment of sanity, David Leyonhjelm absolutely nails that idiocy and the political reasoning behind ... well, pretty much everything the Abbott government is doing right now.

A significant victory for the Kurdish forces as they reclaimed the town of Tell Abyad which is on the Turkey-Syria border. Also a map of the area is provided on the link below.
Quote: | The Islamic State lost a crucial back door into Turkey earlier this week when Kurdish forces ran the militants out of Tal Abyad, cutting off a the terror armys supply route of weapons, cash, and foreign fighters into Syria.
This is a devastating blow to ISIS operations, Jonathan Schanzer, vice president for research at the Foundation for Defence of Democracies, told Business Insider. ISIS lost its most important back door to Turkey.
An unnamed US official told the Wall Street Journal something similar.
[ISIS] was focusing so much on Ramadi and Beiji [in Iraq] they lost sight of the back door, the official said. It is a pretty significant victory.
The relaxed border policies Turkey adopted between 2011-2014 enabled extremists who wished to travel to Syria and join the rebels in their fight against the regime of Syrian president Bashar al-Assad.
Turkey officially ended its open border policy last year, but not before its southern frontier became a transit point for cheap oil, weapons, foreign fighters, and pillaged antiquities. Smuggling networks all along the nations 565-mile border with Syria managed to emerge and flourish while the policy was in place, with ISIS being the main beneficiary recently.
Syrian Kurds now control a contiguous 245-mile stretch of territory from Kobani east on the Syrian-Turkish border, WSJ reports. |

Not technically about ISIS, but check out this absurdity from Tony Abbott:
http://www.smh.com.au/federal-politics/political-news/courts-might-let-suspected-terrorists-off-says-tony-abbott-20150619-ghs1il.html
Quote: | "What happens if they get off? That's the problem," he said on Friday.
"We all know there are evidentiary issues with prosecutions of people for offences abroad...
"Now, I don't want terrorists in our country. Full stop. And if someone leaves our country to join a terrorist army abroad, I don't want them back." |
That's right: we can't trust the courts to dispense justice, so we'll leave it in the hands of a single minister instead. Tony Abbott should just change his name to Batman and be done with it. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

I'm confused! How did we go from talking about ISIS to feminism? _________________ | 1902 | 1903 | 1910 | 1917 | 1919 | 1927 | 1928 | 1929 | 1930 | 1935 | 1936 | 1953 | 1958 | 1990 | 2010 | 2023 | |

Good riddance to these scumbags if this is true!
Quote: | The Federal Government is working to confirm reports that Australia's most infamous terrorists, Khaled Sharrouf and Mohamed Elomar, have been killed while fighting with Islamic State in Iraq.
A person close to one of the men's families told the ABC's 7.30 the pair died in fighting in the city of Mosul, though that could not be immediately confirmed.
Another source close to the families said the pair died within the past week and that they were told Sharrouf and Elomar were killed by a drone strike.
Elomar's body is believed to have been recovered but the remains of Sharrouf are missing.
The pair travelled to Syria and then Iraq in 2013, with Sharrouf using his brother's passport to leave Australia.
Sharrouf and Elomar shot to global infamy last year when photos were posted online of them holding the severed heads of pro-Syrian government soldiers.
Sharrouf was also wanted by Australian authorities for his role in the suspected shooting execution of an Iraqi official outside Mosul.
