Post subject: Barnaby Joyce comes down hard on Film Piracy (& smugglin | |
|
Barnaby Joyce (is that the Chattanooga chew chew?) has announced that Johnny Depp's potential rabid dogs (Boo and Pistol) will be put down if they if they aren't on put back on their chartered aircraft!
According to Barnaby the dog's were smuggled illegally into Australia and will face the death penalty!
Depp's dogs were discovered by Customs Agents steaking out a poodle parlour in Brisbane!
Australia has a reputation for welcoming visitors (particularly individuals that bring Millions of $$$ in jobs, materials and free tourism advertising) and here we have a government minister making statements that wouldn't have put into Yes Minister because no one would believe it possible!
(if they aren't deported they will some be departed)!

So laws should be broken for an actor.
There is good reason to have livestock laws, all he had to do was submit the paperwork, and abide by quarantine laws. Same as you do if you want to take a dog to the USA.
He has 50 hours to put them on a plane home. That's more than fair.
Not on the dogs, but that's the pirates fault _________________ You cant fix stupid, turns out you cant quarantine it either!

Sadly, I think the dogs will probably be treated more humanely than actual asylum seekers would be.
But Johnny Depp should be deported just for acting in terrible films. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

Even our dogs that go to war, Explosive Detection Dogs for example, have to spend time in quarantine. World class racehorses that are treated better than royalty are the same. And you can't send them to manus island either as the muslims would hate it and we would have the greens accusing Joyce of torturing them. _________________ Annoying opposition supporters since 1967. |

Putting the dogs in quarantine for 10 days is all that's needed.
Depp is an extremely busy man who (or more likely his assistant) failed to do the paper-work on 2 small pampered dogs that are probably the most healthy dogs in the world!
As I said, making films in Australia brings in millions $ to Queensland.
Sure the law is the law but this seems to me more like an oversight than a deliberate attempt to smuggle dogs for private (or is that Pirate) gain!
Why is the Agriculture Minister going on TV and kicking up such fuss in the National (and international) press, isn't enforcing import laws IS the job of Customs Officials!
In this cases some latitude should be shown rather than the pompous posturing of a 1/2 wit twit!
Now this storm in a tea-cup has hit the media I doubt Depp will ever want to come and make another film in this country again.
Well done Barnaby, another triumph for boots and all diplomacy hurting the Aussie Economy!!!

Yes! Lets start making legal exceptions for Hollywood actors. Maybe they can bring in their drugs and underage prostitutes on their chartered jets too. They can be offered "Thespiatic Immunity", anything to make us small backwater, antipodean yokels down here get a pat on the head.
Barnaby Joyce has done exactly the right thing here, the dogs as he put it "bugger off back to the United States" or get put down. Any animal from a country with rabies (probably from anywhere) would get treated exactly the same way. |

Not filing the correct paperwork for 2 dogs can't be compared with celebs bringing in drugs and under-age prositutes!
Who's running this country DTM?
My guess is these guys...! |

Spot on. I believe he has been given the chance to fill out the paperwork, and then They need 10 days quarantine. Or he can send them back on his private jet, til the paper work is done. It ain't rocket science. _________________ You cant fix stupid, turns out you cant quarantine it either! |

Why does Barnaby Joyce need to announce this?
Surely it's a matter for Customs and/or the law courts?
Stupid grand-standing that makes this country look like a bunch of red-necked dolts.
Btw, Rupert Murdoch broke the law when he phone hacked nearly everyone in England including the family of a girl kidnapped over-seas.
When his reporters did this they wiped the ph's memory leading the UK on wild goose chase because the ph had messages had been wiped and she was still alive!
What was his punishment?
A slap on the wrist anda couple of his minions doing a little Very easy time in a gaol/hotel and polite request to never do it again!
In Australia illegally with-held nearly a $ Billion dollars owed to the Tax Department.
What was his punishment?
The Government ordered the ATO to give him the $880,000 back because of generous help during the 2013 election.
Tony Abbott broke the law when he didn't list his daughters dodgy scholarship in the register of members interests.
He had the chance to fill out the paperwork but he didn't!
(whether or not it was gained on merit isn't an issue)
What was his penalty?
Nothing!
Abbott again broke the law when he (and others including the Attorney General George Brandis) claimed travel expenses to a Bollywood wedding that Gina Rheinhardt invited them all to.
What was their penalty?
Nothing, Brandis (the man sitting in judgement on himself) changed the law to make it legal!
The Law is sacrosanct and applies to all?
Baaaah hum-bug! |
