Essendon have been far less convincing against poor teams, but they've also pushed Sydney close at home and beaten Hawthorn. I don't think there's much separating us from them at the moment, but I'd still have them narrowly above us, even after Sunday's unconvincing showing. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

Agree with RudeBoy, we should be ahead of Dons. We beat them handily. Smashed the Saints who they barely accounted for and destroyed the Blues who they beat by a few goals. They had good performances against the Hawks and Swans, but that's only two games and only one was a win. _________________ Well done boys! |

Also what should be taken into account when analysing Essendon's victory over Hawthorn was the fact that Essendon came off an eight day break whereas the Hawks only had six days to prepare as they had played Geelong on Easter Monday the week before. If Hawthorn had the luxury of a seven or eight day break I suspect that they would have won that game to be honest.
It was a good win and they played well against the Swans but they've been poor against Carlton, Collingwood and St.Kilda despite recording two victories within those three matches. _________________ | 1902 | 1903 | 1910 | 1917 | 1919 | 1927 | 1928 | 1929 | 1930 | 1935 | 1936 | 1953 | 1958 | 1990 | 2010 | 2023 | |

Lol. I see what you did there!
Seriously, though, check it out. Look where Port is on the ladder as opposed to West Coast, GWS and Richmond. And, as much as I hate to say it, look where we are... _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

Because games can be won or lost by a kick or two I've always thought that the percentage column is really the best indicator of form. The problem is that we all have preconceived notions of good and bad teams and that makes it hard to accept the stats as being correct. Obviously, until everyone has played each other once, there cannot be a truly accurate 'form ladder'. Nevertheless, using a team's percentage as my guide, my current 'Form ladder' is:
Fremantle 151
Hawthorn 150
Collingwood 147
Eagles 146
Swans 118
Tigers 112
Crows 111
Bulldogs 105
Giants 103
Bombers 98
Port 97
Kangas 90
Suns 87
Dees 82
Saints 81
Cats 78
Blues 72
Lions 51 |

Hmmm, maybe it's an OUT of form ladder ie: 12th beat 2nd, 15th beat 5th, 9th beat 3rd & 11th beat 8th.
Can't wait for the round 6 update🐰🐸 _________________ Don't count the days, make the days count. |

disagree but it depends on the context you using to form the view or snapshot of the form. for example, a team in the chasing pack might hit a rich vein of form across a four week window and be the form team of the competition. _________________ Purveyor of sanctimonious twaddle. |

There were a lot of upsets this round by anyone's reckoning. Will definitely affect the placings this week.
I'll post it over the next day or two. Feel free to have a go in the meantime.
Rudeboy, I don't find percentage any more reliable—obviously you'd expect a team who's played St. Kilda, Carlton and Brisbane, Essendon, Geelong and Adelaide to have a superior percentage to a team like Port that's played all top 8 contenders like Hawthorn, Fremantle, Sydney, North, Adelaide and West Coast. I don't think anyone would say we're a better team than Port right now. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

Looks pretty reasonable. Only major surprise is seeing West Coast in 2nd—that's a big call, even given their win on the weekend. I'd have them in the top 8 now, but not in the top 4. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |
