What a terrific start to the season. Can be summed up in two words: above expectations.
vs Lions:
Expectation: loss
Result: solid win after dominating for periods
vs Crows:
Expectation: pummeling
Result: under 5 goal loss. We were pummeled for periods but the end result is what it is
vs Dons:
Expectation: loss
Result: solid win on a big day
Are we playing perfect football? Far from it. But we are playing tough, structured footy, which is not easily being broken down. That's a great improvement on the second half of last year and a credit to the coaches. We are a tougher and harder running side than we've been in a while (as expected moving Beams on has helped us in this part of the game).
I did not and do not have high hopes for this season. Those hopes are now being reassessed given we have so far played above expectations (though we also need to consider the improvement of the Eagles, Dogs, Giants and Demons). No matter where we end up on the ladder I'll be happy with a season playing the sort of footy we've shown so far this year. _________________ Well done boys! |

Who'd have thought, eh? - We're third on the ladder.
And the view is great.
Look! You can see September from up here. |

Doing a forward projection we should turn at either 9-2 or 8-3 (Possible losses to Norf and GWS). Finals almost a certainty from there.
Still a lot of work to do, but our first post rebuild year looks to be brighter than I thought. |

One stubborn and arrogant to think his team are contenders so tops up his team with has beens.
The other honest and brave enough to recognise that his team were no longer good enough so began to transform his team through youth and character.
They may yet end up above us on the ladder at the end of the year but I know which team is going places! |
A long and influential friend of mine texted to me after a series of game day banter wrote that essendope will finish higher than we as well. Couldn't think why apart from our younger squad than theirs. but I think attitude leads to success and fig jam hird has been given a lesson in just that. Geez I like beingthe underdog. Ps do you mind if I use your words in reply as theres more sting to its tail? |
sure, go ahead |

That was a better win with some more structure evident in our game than what we often see. Our disposals were pretty murderous for most of the game however. Essendon is a second tier side as are our other wins so far. A win is a win is a win but if we play like yesterday against top class sides we will have our ass handed back to us on a platter. _________________ We've all heard that a million monkeys banging on a million typewriters will eventually reproduce the entire works of Shakespeare. This might be the sleeper of the season While they have not beaten a serious contender (GWS, Saints, Melbourne) they did not lose to Sydney by that much (20 pts, if memory serves) All those top ten draft picks will pay off eventually I fear their rise might coincide with ours, and they've had the AFL largesse a la Brisbane of 2002/2003. _________________ Two more flags before I die! |

Incorrect… bummers were made to look second rate thanks to the pressure placed on them by the Pies! When they beat the Hawks a few weeks back the Hawks were headed for 4 in a row and looked as good as any time over the last few years…
Our wins over lions and saints were against bottom 4 clubs - but even that was not set early with all the pre-season talk re he Lions amazing mids…
The fact is we have beaten 1 team from last years finals and if we can continue to beat the teams below us and snag a few from the finalists contenders then we will be seriously pushing for the 8 this year! _________________ Love us or Hate us... we are Collingwood - you can't ignore the Mighty Magpies!!! |

if or when we get a turn, i expect that to win a flag we'll have to beat the likes of port, gws, the welfare, gcs (in spite of their current predicament) and essendon. the hawks, freo and the swans will be there or thereabouts but possibily on a downward trajectory similar to what geelong has been experiencing over the last three to four years. _________________ Purveyor of sanctimonious twaddle. |

A great win , we showed a lot of guts and jam tart all day. Very happy with our backline and young Jack Crisp's tagging job was expectional on Watson and later on Heppell. A great team effort , White and Gault struggled but will hopefully improve on friday. Goldsack back to his tough best. Grundy never stopped all day. Marley Williams turned the corner along with Seedy. _________________ " Ohhh Banksy and out comes the Note Book".
