Post subject: Keep Goldy in defense | |
|
Before I get to my point, I will agree with most here that Goldy running around in our forward line is a great bow to our gameplan. Chasing down players and creating turnovers is his bread and butter. His game against the Saints was pretty scrappy in terms of some of his skill execution in general play, but where he really shined was the kick ins. Booting it almost 60 m sometimes to players on their chest was a direct factor in later goals. I haven't seen a display like that since Davis a few years back. Since his loss, we have struggled to efficiently get out of defensive 50.
Not trying to hang our hopes on one good kick in game, but if he can keep it up like he did on the weekend, I say keep him up back - at least until Reid can get back and take over. |

He might have to if they play Ambrose forward. |

I agree with the OP. Goldy's got a little bit of toe too which could be useful for playing on and then really clearing the 50.
I liked us having 3 tall forwards last week. With Elliott playing tall, the last 2 forward line spots need to be for smalls. |

Reckon he's been pretty poor this year so far. Probably our worst performer to date. _________________ kill for collingwood! |

It was no coincidence that Davis took the kick outs in 2010
and we made it to the GF.
Our kick outs last year were pathetic!
20 metres to the deep pocket!
To see Goldy roosting it long was a joy to watch.
Goldy fumbles too much to play forward on a
regular basis.
Keep him back! _________________ we don't eat our own at collingwood we just allow them to foul our nest. |

I agree, I'd think he'd be lucky to be playing ANZAC day. |

We use him week-to-week on a needs basis.
If that be as a general pressure forward, or as a specific defensive forward to take a key part of the opposition's defence out of the game, then so be it.
If that be as a gap plugger in defence playing in a key defensive post on a 2nd opposition tall forward, or on a high leading medium forward, then so be it.
If that be in the substitute's vest, then so be it.
If that be in the VFL for team balance or on form, then so be it.
Quite a handy player to have on the list. But poly filler is as good as it will get for Goldsack... _________________ I am vengeance. I am the night. I am MagpieBat. |

Agreed with the Bat. Was probably next on the list after Fasolo to have been ommitted.
Still, his height and pace adds some flexibility/optionality. He seems to have had little impact more recently. (AFL rank No 98 for total tackles, 118 for ave tackles plus 10 disposals and 2.3 marks per game, 0 goals), but I haven't noticed him having an impact with respect to tackling other than the Hawthorn NAB challenge game. _________________ One team, one dream - the Pies and this year's premiership |
