Hit the local sports bar at 5 in the afternoon, not many here for the game, its Khmer New Year so the capital is as dead as a door nail. Rocking the AFL in Cambodia.

Game day experience V Carlton Friday night.
Still blaring music and hard to talk to others.
Idiot with a microphone at each change.
TV in my area - no captions to identify players going for goal, no idea on the sub.
Hulk Hogan at two breaks ??
"Bongo Cam"

It makes going to the VFL at VIC park today even more enjoyable.

Yes I completely agree that the constant blaring music in between quarters is ridiculously loud. It's not fan-friendly whatsoever especially if you want to talk to people around you.

The hovercraft by Carlton was ridiculous but I couldn't stop laughing at how bad it was considering our game day experience isn't all that good either but Carlton's match day experience is far worse than ours.

why do we need fireworks pregame?

i liked the stripes on the electronic signage but they did look like barcodes.

ironically, the clubs with the least to spend probably offer the best game day experience. you're not bombarded with peripheral, superficial rubbish.

they might be a rancid mob but tonight's pregame effort by them was pretty good.

http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/gameday-no-experience-necessary-20150515-gh2qug.html

Quote:
Once, the gameday experience was the game, two in the AFL/VFL if you came early enough to watch the reserves (and many did). Now, marketing execs with thin moustaches tacitly declare that a) it's the greatest game in the world, but b) just in case it's not, here's some some baubles and trinkets for the kiddies. They say their remit is to cultivate new fans, whose loyalty is an unknown, and don't seem to care if in their pursuit they alienate old fans, whose loyalty is known and can taken for granted. They pitch to parents through kids, and to kids through wow factor: booming sound, flaring lights, special effects, and any one of half a dozen ways in which they might get to wave to themselves on TV. There is no higher pinnacle of achievement in 2015 than to get to wave to yourself on a TV screen.

But sometimes it is impossible not to think that the whole gameday experience would be more rewarding for everybody if they put a match on inside the ground and a bouncy castle outside, and the ground announcer on it, bound hand and foot, and the Big Bash League's motorcycle tricksters in there with him.

Very Happy The guy in front of them looked like he wanted to go on with it.
If the Pies want to give me a good game day experience all they need to do is win.

i really want to know how we get the boffins - who think they know what's good for us - to pare back the shite they think is an experience we want.

there's been a couple of articles by some wise heads in the media but this needs to be further highlighted.

The AFL can't even put on a good game day experience for the GF. So I don't see how clubs are going to do it for H&A games. Bring back the reserves curtain raisers and the giant banners with the snide remarks directed at the opposition. That plus a win will do me.

The biggest question is why do we keep getting this shite jammed down our throat when we've told them time and again we don't want it?

Even the media scribes are at one with the fans on this but still no one is listening.

Can't recall his name but there is a bloke at the AFL who is driving all this as reported previously in the media.

I suggest he be lead out of that building and shot....

out of a cannon!
