Come on people fire up!
Think back to how you felt during the whole Beams saga and recall your hate for this rancid mob.
Christ we mightn't be world beaters but these arrogant tossers won 4 less games than us last year.
They aren't Hawthorn and are certainly beatable.
After this week we need a win.

Hope the team looks something like this. We need to remember that Pendles didn't play last time v Brisbane and Swan was in terrible form. Beams may have also made his mind up by round 21 as to going home. Our midfield is still extremely light-on.
B: Williams, Frost, Goldsack
HB: Langdon, Brown, Toovey
C: Varcoe, Swan, Crisp
HF: Sidebottom, Cloke, Blair
F: Elliott, White, Fasolo
R: Pendlebury, Adams, Witts
Bench From: Sinclair, Karnezis, Broomhead, Kennedy, Freeman, De Goey
Undecided:
Dwyer
Armstrong
Grundy
Reid (rehab?)
Oxley
Ramsay
Gault
Out:
Ball (retired)
Beams (trade)
Lumumba (trade)
Keeffe (susp)
JThomas (susp)
Greenwood (inj)
Macaffer (inj)
Scharenberg (inj)

I am not as pessimistic as many. Brisbane is like a torso with no head and no legs...great midfield, but where is it going?
Our defence will be OK because it won't be threatened with a monstrous forward line, and our forwards will be OK provided that we can deliver to the ball to them!
So we must find a way to counter their midfield superiority. And for that, I think we could through weight of numbers because our recruiting strategy seems to have been to get as many players as possible capable of rotating through the midfield. Our players are inexperienced, but we have alot of them!
So I would like to see Sinclair selected, as he can run through the midfield. I would like to see Crisp, Broomhead, Freman,De Goey all selected. Since I can't have all, I would go with De Goey over Freeman if only due to preseason form. My team would be:
Toovey brown williams
Langdon. Frost. Sinclair
Varcoe. Swan sidebottom
Fasolo. Cloke. Goldsack
Elliot. White. gault
Foll: Grundy pendles Adams
Inter: de goey Blair broomhead Crisp
I would have Gault in rather than Karnezis because of Gault's proven capacity to take a mark and act as a diversion of defenders from Cloke. Also White could be freed up to run through the midfield as well, and perhaps Swan come to the forward line during a break.
I think that the chance for us to counter their midfield will be to rotate many different players through there, which we are capable of. It will be a team effort of our fleet of midfielders to control Rockliff and Beams. |

Thanks Mattys 123.
Top report , well written & hard to do for the first game although I'm not as optimistic as you. Their rucks are very good with their pacy midfield. I like Leppitch about as much as I like James Hird.
By god I hope you're right. _________________ “I even went as far as becoming a Southern Baptist until I realised they didn’t keep ‘em under long enough” Kinky Friedman |

I have a feeling their 2 rucks will put it down their mids throats all night.
Never has Grundy been more required to stand tall & nullify them. |

Yes indeed - this is the team for me - and the team to beat the Brions!
Grundy will need White to give him a chop out now and then - so Gault plays up forward as FF.
Swan, Pendles, Sidey, Adams, Varcoe, Williams need to step up in the middle and apply pressure to give our backs and forwards the best chance of beating their opponents.
We can do it C'non Pies this game is huge as it sets up our front half of the season!
Note:- I would have Ramsay as the sub. _________________ Love us or Hate us... we are Collingwood - you can't ignore the Mighty Magpies!!! |
