A double wicket maiden in the 46th over! That's clinched it, surely. |

Some other solid performances, too. Finch played very responsibly for his 81, Maxwell made a decent batting cameo, bowled tightly and threw out the last remaining Indian hope with a remarkably quick gather and throw - it was like a Peter Daicos goal out of nothing, Starc and Hazelwood both bowled tightly.
that said, the bowling looked a little light on at times - it seemed like the good bowlers had to bowl them to victory because, if they didn't, the last 10 or 15 overs of bowling might be exposed.
I also worry about Clarke's match-readiness. His dismissals in this and the previous match were both a bit on the soft side and his fielding wasn't sharp enough at times. |

This could be a very one sided final, NZ will find it much different having played all their matches at home on the postage stamps to come to the home of cricket and do well
I just hope Australia bat first so we get a full days entertainment |

Great win by the Aussies.
How quiet was the crowd when the Indian supporters realised they were up against it? No wonder Steve Smith was able to hear that slight nick by Rahane. And the guy crying when Kholi went out (or maybe he had just heard Zayn was leaving One Direction).
Was waiting for Dhoni to let loose in the final 15 but the game seemed to just potter along until its inevitable conclusion.
Kiwis have 2 days extra break but the Aussies have the benefit of having played on the MCG and less travel. _________________ If you are foolish enough to be contented, don't show it, but just grumble with the rest. - Jerome K Jerome |

Yes, DB.
I, too, was puzzled and then dismayed (along with Indian comms. - Bogle, Ganguly and Gavaskar) at Dhoni's innings. Especially seeing how easily he whacked Watto for consecutive sixes. I thought, "Here we go!" This will be interesting.
But, no. Back to knocking singles around as the r.r.r. climbed.
India was the defending WC Champion and MSD, a renowned finisher but he fizzled and nurdled to 65 from 65 balls - 35 of them from singles and the odd 2. I'm still scratching my head.
Yes, the Oz bowling was good but (apart from his 2 sixes), he wasn't even TRYING for boundaries. _________________ Donny.

Yep, that certainly broke them. The same way Daicos could demoralise the opposition in a quarter.

Well we saw Faulkner bowl utter rubbish to the openers. Nothing even remotely pitched up outside off-stump. Some late junk wickets against the tail assisted his statistics.

Not sure if the side can carry Clarke for another match. It's like going into a contest a batsman short at the expense of Chris Lynn for example.
If Sunday gets cocked up, i fully expect Lehmann to sack Clarke.
Somebody's luck is going to run out on Sunday, hope it's the Kiwis.

So, I expect that James Faulkner's effort of bowling a double-wicket maiden in the semi-final and again in the final won't be emulated for a while (well, four years, at least). |

For the record, here's a summary of Australia's 2015 World Cup campaign:
First game - 9/342 (Finch 135 from 128, Maxwell 66 from 40, Bailey 55 from 69 and Haddin 31 from 14) and a 111 run win over England (Mitchell Marsh 5/33, Starc and Johnson 2 wickets apiece): http://www.espncricinfo.com/icc-cricket-world-cup-2015/engine/match/656401.html
Second game - Match abandoned without a ball bowled (that's one way for the Tigers to break even with Australia)
Third game - All out 151 (Haddin 43 from 41, Warner 34 from 42). NZ 9/152 (Starc 6/28, Cummins 2 wickets and Maxwell 1; Johnson 6 overs, 0/68 )
http://www.espncricinfo.com/icc-cricket-world-cup-2015/engine/match/656437.html
Fourth game - 6/417 (Warner 178 from 133, Smith 95 from 98, Maxwell 88 from 39) and a 275 run win over Afghanistan (Johnson 4/22, Hazelwood and Starc 2 wickets each, Clarke and Maxwell 1 each)
http://www.espncricinfo.com/icc-cricket-world-cup-2015/engine/match/656449.html
Fifth game - 9/376 (Maxwell 102 from 53, Smith 72 from 88, Clarke 68 from 68 and Watson 67 from 41) and a 64 run win over Sri Lanka (Faulkner 3/48, Starc and Johnson 2 each, Watson 1/71 and a run out by Clarke, with Chandimal retired hurt)
http://www.espncricinfo.com/icc-cricket-world-cup-2015/engine/match/656461.html
Sixth game - Scotland 130 (Starc 4/14, Cummins 3/42, Watson, Johnson and Maxwell 1 each) and Australia 3/133 in 15.2 overs (Clarke 47 from 47, Watson 24 from 23, Warner 21 from 6, Finch 20 from 10 and Faulkner 16 from 6)
http://www.espncricinfo.com/icc-cricket-world-cup-2015/engine/match/656477.html
Quarter-final - Pakistan 213 (Hazlewood 4/35, Starc and Maxwell 2 each, Johnson and Faulkner 1 each) and Australia 4/216 from 33.5 overs (Smith 65 from 69, Watson 64 from 66, Maxwell 44 from 29)
http://www.espncricinfo.com/icc-cricket-world-cup-2015/engine/match/656487.html
Semi-final - 7/328 (Smith 105 from 93, Finch 81 from 116, Johnson 27 from 9) and a 95 run win over India (Faulkner 3/59, Starc and Johnson 2 each, Hazlewood 1, with Maxwell and Smith each securing a run out)
http://www.espncricinfo.com/icc-cricket-world-cup-2015/engine/match/656493.html
Final - New Zealand 183 (Johnson 3/30, Faulkner 3/36, Starc 2/20 and Maxwell with 1 bowling and another runout) and Australia 3/186 from 33.1 overs (Clarke 74 from 72, Smith 56 from 71, Warner 45 from 46)
http://www.espncricinfo.com/icc-cricket-world-cup-2015/engine/match/656495.html
Amongst the better stats:
Batting - Smith 402 runs in 7 innings at an average of 67 with four 50s and a 100, Warner 345 in 8 innings at an average of 49.28 with no 50s and 1 big hundred, Maxwell with 324 in 6 innings at an average of 64.8 with two 50s and a 100 and - most importantly of all - at a strike rate of 182.02. McCullum was the only player at this World Cup with a better strike rate (188.5) but he only averaged 36.44 and batted 3 more times than Maxwell for his 4 extra runs.
Bowling - Starc 22 wickets at 10.18 average and 3.5 economy rate, Johnson 15 wickets at 21.73 average and 5.13 economy rate, Faulkner 10 wickets at 19.7 average and 4.7 economy rate.
And, the most important stat of all in any form of slap and giggle cricket is this one: Australia hit 47 sixes in the tournament. Of those, Maxwell hit 14, Warner 9 and Finch 6.
Here are the complete Australian batting and bowling averages: http://stats.espncricinfo.com/icc-cricket-world-cup-2015/engine/records/averages/batting_bowling_by_team.html?id=6537;team=2;type=tournament |

So in hindsight, would you think that these results worked in our favour?
Implying that perhaps waether permitting, had we flogged Tiggers in second game for an extra point, then stolen the third game for another two points, would we have then had to play RSA in the semi final?
If so, i still would have preferred to face India as we did.
Still a shame RSA didn't roll the Kiwis, would have made for a better MCG WCC final i'd expect.
