Should we make a genuine play at getting Dangerfield? |
Yes - and surpass any other financial offer made to improve our odds. |

Yes- but within reason. Let's not break the bank. |

No - He would eat up to much of our salary cap space. |

If we perform as a few optimists believe we will then I don't think we have a need for him - particularly in relation to the salary cap and how close it would push us (if we're not already there).
If the midfield is average or below then there's a huge argument to chase him. The guy's a star, let's be honest but you don't want to bring him in at the expense of losing some of our younger quality players who we wouldn't have the coin to pay. |
Good post, we'll know a lot more come seasons end, shit, for all we know a KPF might be our biggest need. _________________ Defender...........

Obviously Dangerfield is an absolute gun who would be an enourmous injection of energy, courage and skill into any team. But we have recruited massively in the midfield area, and have lots of young guns champing at the bit. I would say that we should wait a while before assuming that Patrick Dangerfield is our strategically best target. If we are prepared to pay an enormous amount (as Dangerfield would cost), and the development of our young guns tracks in a significantly positive way, maybe instead we should be aiming for a well established, key forward option to complement Travis Cloke instead. We need to aim for one really top quality gun player next year...but I am not sure that where this player should be (midfield, or a forward) is firmly decided yet. Wait and see would be my approach. |

At this stage I'd guess we're probably 3rd in the pecking order on his services behind Adelaide and Geelong. |
So we're 2nd then, because he's not staying at Adelaide.
Would be interesting if we finished ahead of Geelong on the ladder this year, that might tip the scales our way.
Melbourne are also in for him, Bernie Vince is there and they were very close apparently. |
Time will tell, I'm not as sure as some seem to be. |

Better to not sell the farm for Danger when we may very well have our own version already in Freeman. Both big bodied. Both fast. Both aggressive. Both pick 10.
Prefer we go after Cameron. He is the player we do need. _________________ " Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye" ? |

It would be nice if we could front end an offer for him I reckon - we must have some cap space with Beams gone and we would've had some space anyway, so we should have (and I'm sure we will be) front loading Cloke or Pendles contracts at present, if we could put a 1. whatever million dollar per year deal on the table for a couple of years then drag him down Luke Ball style (maybe not that far though) we might have a good crack. I realise the Luke Ball situation was different, but might work in our favour, whereas Geelong would have little room in the cap I would suspect.

Exactly. Far too many imponderables with all the exciting young talent running around.
Let's wait and see. |

It'll be way to late by seasons end to be making a play for Dangerfield.
If we are really interested then discussions will commence over the coming months if they haven't already. _________________ He's mad. He's bad. He's MaynHARD! |

Whilst it is a no brainer that Dangerfield would be a fantastic recruit should we manager to secure him under Free Agency, I fear Geelong has already got him over the line. If that is the case and the fact that Jezza Cameron has signed with GWS I feel teh targetted footballer we should have a real crack at is Adam Treloar from the GWS.
He is reputedly a gun midfielder in the making and would come in a much less than Dangerfield and fit in nicely with Swanny's impending departure. _________________ Collingwood Domination. Envy of the Nation! |
