Post subject: King Abdullah Supported Us, So He Was a Good Fundamentalist! | |
|
Bwahahahaha! What an embarrassing farce. Surely a new world record in shameless hypocrisy as Teflon Saudi Arabia, that great funder of Al Qaeda and supplier of extremists, is honored yet again for it's marvelous contribution to regional peace and prosperity!
bbc wrote: | David Cameron will travel to Saudi Arabia following the death of King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, Downing Street has confirmed.
The prime minister, who said he was "deeply saddened", will join the Prince of Wales in Riyadh.
Government buildings and Westminster Abbey have been flying the union flag at half mast as a mark of respect.
But the decision has attracted strong criticism from some politicians and human rights campaigners.
King Abdullah, who was said to be aged about 90, had been suffering from a lung infection.
The prime minister said the king would be remembered for his "commitment to peace and for strengthening understanding between faiths".
...
He said: "My thoughts and prayers are with the Saudi royal family and the people of the kingdom at this sad time.
"I sincerely hope that the long and deep ties between our two kingdoms will continue and that we can continue to work together to strengthen peace and prosperity in the world."
Downing Street said the prime minister would leave for Saudi Arabia on Saturday, while a spokesman for the Prince of Wales said he would travel to the country later on Friday.
'Steaming pile'
The union flag was lowered to half-mast on government buildings in a decision which the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) said was "in line with long-standing arrangements following the death of a foreign monarch".
Officials said it was a matter of protocol and that the formal request had been made by Buckingham Palace.
But the move has been strongly criticised by human rights campaigners and some politicians and prominent figures.
Ruth Davidson, leader of the Scottish Conservatives, tweeted: "Flying flags at half mast on gov buildings for the death of Saudi king is a steaming pile of nonsense."
And UKIP MP Douglas Carswell said officials had made a "serious blunder".
The director of Amnesty International UK, Kate Allen, said: "No-one is flying flags for the scores of people Saudi Arabia executes each year after unfair trials, and we should focus on the human rights reality in Saudi Arabia not the emblems of diplomacy.
"When the flags are run back up their flagpoles the UK government needs to move on from the tributes and put on public record their desire to see sweeping human rights reform under [his successor] King Salman."
...
Former prime minister Tony Blair said he admired King Abdullah greatly.
"Despite the turmoil of events in the region around him, he remained a stable and sound ally, was a patient and skilful moderniser of his country leading it step by step into the future," Mr Blair said.
He paid tribute to the monarch's advocacy of "inter-faith relations", his embracing of education for women, and his investment in renewable energy.
"And of course he launched the Arab Peace Initiative in 2002 which has stood the test of time as a potential basis for a solution to the Israeli Palestine issue," the ex-PM added. |

And, of course, you just knew that grinning idiot Blair would be in there with his best fake tan on, networking for new contracts for his horrifically unethical post-Iraq oil consulting feifdom, meanwhile siding against those "evil" fundamentalist Muslims who don't want to do business with him and his cronies. _________________ In the end the rain comes down, washes clean the streets of a blue sky town.

I've never understood the relationship between Saudi Arabia and the west. They're terrorist central and if the 'War on Terror' was legitimate should be the number one target but instead they're appeased because they're a counterweight against Iran.

The key is, before you read a document on these things, do a search and replace, substituting as follows:
geopolitical strategy --> overseas government warfare and corporate welfare whose aim is to make very powerful people even more money
ally --> leader who persecutes his own population instead of us having to do it
enemy --> leader or group who won't act as our police force, but instead wants economic and political independence or some idealistic nonsense like that
terrorist --> angry upstart fuming because we won't allow him to take control of his own country by force as we're already supporting another terrorist group in that endeavour _________________ In the end the rain comes down, washes clean the streets of a blue sky town.

Given the amount of terror funding and 9/11 terrorists who came from Saudi Arabia not so sure if the removal of the royal family would be a help or a hindrance to the Saudi people.
The alternative could be we see some sort of ISIS style uprising and it's not like the middle east is a beacon of democracy.
I guess the West feels it can exert some control of the royal family and it's more a case of better the devil you know.
Still it's a nonsense that he would be seen as an ally on the war on terror and be honored in such ways. _________________ He's mad. He's bad. He's MaynHARD! |

I guess it goes to show how arbitrary some of these narratives are. Saddam Hussein was turned into a Disney villain in the months leading up to the 2003 war (and throughout it), whereas 'friendly' autocrats get tearful tributes. Of course, we shouldn't overestimate the significance of this hypocrisy; many 'patriots' would happily admit to these double standards so long as the national interest were being served. But for the rest of us, one can only shake one's head at the insanity of it all. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |
