This was planned for maximum exposure, across from channel 7. Reminds me of the movie with Denzel Washington, "The Siege". |

Save the chocolate!!!! |
While humour is sometimes required in bad situations, I'm not sure now is the right time. |
Though for Terrisom. Chocolate Shop is a Weird Place to do it |
The chocolate shop in Martin Place is almost exactly opposite Sydney's Channel 7 Headquarters. This was chosen for maximum media exposure. Channel 7 staff can watch the drama from their own windows! |

Checked it out on google earth, I think the offender went to the wrong business, as I kid you not, the business next door is named, 'Blow up Hairdressers'. |

Yep, save the hostages, and shoot to kill the terrorists. Don't waste more than the cost of a bullet on them.
just save the hostages. Imagine what they are going through.

So if only he'd held up a Greenpeace flag all would be forgiven
Or would we have to merge this thread with the Greeny crims one? |

I was thinking the same thing.
There seems precious little effort being spent even trying to talk to the guy! |

Listening to this on and off on the radio today.A point was made that the Sydney Police are treating this as a criminal act, not a terrorist act. Getting the snipers to pot someone through a window works good in the movies and for the SAS, but we tend to prefer to get the hostages out alive if we can.
Was great to see the Grand Mufti disown this stuff and to hear people referring to themselves as Australian Muslims ringing in to the radio disowning this stuff as well.
I really feel for the poor bastards inside the cafe. Must be nerve wracking to say the least. They're the first priority.
I must say I'm disappointed in the reaction of some (NB, Some, not all) of the lefties in my facebook feed who go straight to remarks about how this will benefit Abbott. Great fkn priorities.
I'll reserve judgement about the motives until it's over and we have some real information. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

It must be horrific for those inside and their families!
Lone gunman - not young - on the same day as further arrests for terror related activities happened in Sydney - pure speculation but I wonder if he is related to the young man arrested?
I just hope it ends peacefully - agree Stui the Islamic leaders and community needed to make a strong statement and they have. _________________ “The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.” |

I know it's all speculation right now, but does anyone else think it's telling that there's only one gunman? That suggests to me more lone crazy than organised terrorist plot.
I could be wrong, but I would have thought that he'd have a bit of back-up if it were the latter. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |
