His conviction couldn't be upheld retrospectively that doent make him innocent. And I still recall the pictures of him shooting a rocket launcher, from the other side of the fence. He could always go get a job in Afghanistan. |
It doesn't make him guilty either and in this country a man is presumed innocent until proved otherwise!
(True he was swept away in a "stoopid mid-life quest for true adventure" but
After 6 years of torture I reckon he's paid for his stupidity) (and then some).
Remember two there was never any proof he took part in any fighting against the septics.
My point is he is being prevented from writing about his experiences in Guantanamo prison under the "proceeds of crime legislation", which doesn't/shouldn't apply in his case because he wasn't found guilty in any recognised court!
I wonder why would the US and Aust governments want to silence him?
Shame is my guess! |

well since most aussies are of European descent, then yes!!
your so disdainful of anyone who isn't on the same weird wave length as you! or anyone with a few dollars in the bank, who works for a living and doesn't mind it, and anyone in a position of power who has the audacity to enjoy it

Why?
Am I being a racist or do my words conflict with General Ignorance?

Although there has been a host of misinformation, the following are some facts surrounding the David Hicks’ case.
David Hicks is not a terrorist- David has never been accused of hurting anyone, participating in, supporting, preparing for or knowing about the preparation of a terrorist act. The final charge in the Military Commissions hearing was one count under the Material Support for Terrorism charge- which was foreign to Australian and international law.
David Hicks did not ‘confess’ to supporting terrorism-David’s legal team submitted what is called the Alford Plea. This is a US based plea in which an accused person can agree to plead guilty whilst maintaining innocence. David has always maintained his innocence and strongly denies that he was involved with any terrorist organisations.
David Hicks has not hurt anyone- Even in the created charges, there has never been an allegation that David engaged in a violent act against any person. There has never been any evidence to the contrary.
David Hicks has not had a trial, let alone a fair one- David was asked to sign a plea deal which ensured he would be out of Guantanamo Bay in sixty days. The deal meant that there was never an opportunity for a trial because the deal had already been arranged, including the sentence. |

If you think this is abuse, you should see what was happening at Guantanamo Bay! _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

I just find it ironic that people are complaining about abuse in a thread about torture, and that these are the two posters who were defending the real-life abuse in the first place. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

So maybe people can differentiate differently. If that makes sense. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

Torture is illegal (see link).
The US prosecuted the Japanese and Germans after the second world war for using these same methods .
It is admitting it has and and is still using torture as an instrument of foreign policy.
The Islamic world will never believe we have any moral )or Spiritual) superiority while we continue in this barbarous manner!
The *&^%$% abuse isn't personal Jo, it's criminal. |
