Post subject: 2016: Who should we chase? | |

With not many quality free agents next year I trust we are stockpiling $$ for the future F/A push or trading. One would assume that with salary cap freed up:
Approximate contracts alluded to at the time of signing:
* Jolly ($500,000)
* Thomas ($450,000)
* Ball ($400,000)
* Maxwell ($450,000)
* H Shaw ($400,000)
* Didak ($400,000)
* S Welllingham ($300,000)
* B Johnson ($300,000)
* Dawes ($275,000)
* Q Lynch ($300,000)
* M Clarke ($250,000)
Yes Cloke, Pendlebury, Adams, White and Young shall have chewed into that, but we would have to be building a war chest to strike.
My suggestion is we target:
* P Dangerfield/R Sloane (Crows)
* J Ziebell (hitting prime)
* R Gray
* J Redden
* J Roughead
* T Cotchin
* D Talia
* S Motlop
* C Rioli
* S Reid
* JP Kennedy

Dangerfield.
I was glad to hear we are keeping salary cap room for later years when we are closer, so nabbing Dangerfield at the end of next year should be possible. _________________ kill for collingwood! |

Cameron is a no brainer, geez id love him. But, in reality, we need a key forward, not sure if White is the answer, must be someone around we can lure, if Waite was two yrs younger, hed be ideal. ! _________________ Poverty exists not because we cannot feed the poor, but because we cannot satisfy the rich.

What I'm curious of is, how many of our contracts were/are back loaded. If there are a few, then we would be under some pressure. |

I suspect we'll need to keep space in our salary cap to pay for increased contracts in the next couple of years for players such as Beams, Sidey, Grundy, Witts and Elliott. |

True. But still a Roughead would be great for our forward line, no half bets. _________________ All Aboard!! Choo Choo!!! |

I wouldn't have thought Roughy would be a good fit for us as our delivery inside 50 isn't what it was in 2010-12, but then everyone thought Sydney paying all those millions for Buddy was dumb, and they looked vindicated by round 5. Then the Buddy show started. If they get just three years out of him like this one it would be worth the whole price, especially with a couple of flags to show for it.
That being the case we probably should look at the likes of Danger, Zeebs, and Roughy, it's only money after all.
However, until our culture, or lack thereof, is fixed it won't matter if we get the ten best players in the AFL. And there clearly isn't going to be a change in 2015,
maybe they'll start in 2016? _________________ "If at first you dont succeed...

Not a free agent, but unless we're still planning on a Cloke Reid White set up down the track, I would have thought Cameron would be the most important trade we should be after which of course we're going to need to give up something for. Out biggest weakness as it stands going into our supposed premiership contention years is our forward line for mine. Needs a serious injection of a KPP who is young but still has a couple of years under the belt. I feel like Moore will still be a little raw in 2017. |

GWS - Boyd/Patton/Cameron
GCS - Dixon/Lynch/the other one I can't think of.
Key forwards. That's what we need and are hard to get.
We should draft our mids and are easier to obtain. We currently have enough Key Backs especially with Darcy Moore. |

After last years drafting fiasco it will be interesting what transpires this time around. Waite is a worthy prospect but he is so inconsistent its a big risk. Frawley would slot in well but not worth the dollars. |
