Damien Hardwick has called for the regular season to be shortened to 20 weeks. Do you agree?
I would be happy for a regular season where every team plays each other ONCE (home and away alternates every second year like in the NFL). That makes for a regular season of 17 rounds.
Now obviously that is too short for a lot of fans and certainly for the television stations.
MY SOLUTION
After the regular season where 10 teams go into mothballs, how about a round robin finals tournament in World Cup finals format.
The final eight is seeded so that two groups of four play a round robin tournament of 3 matches each.
GROUP A: 1,3,5,7
GROUP B: 2,4,6,8
The top two in each group go through to the Preliminary Final knockout. The first team in group A plays the second team in group B, and the first team in group B plays the second team in group A.
The grand final is between the winners of these Preliminary finals.
Simple. That's a shorter and fairer regular season and an extended finals seasons that really matters. Clearly the best team will win the flag every year under this system.
Come on AFL make it happen. _________________ Rain or hail, I wag my tail |

Hardwick is just trying to do the humanitarian thing by minimising the time Richmond supporters have to watch their team. |

All I want is an even fixture.
So I'd support 17 rounds and then finals. _________________ No Pressure, No Diamonds

The ONLY fair method is to play each team twice (home and away) as with the old VFL comp draw. Get rid of the NAB cup games and make it a long season like the EPL, just with one bye during the season for each team.
However this is never likely to happen, therefore we will never have a fair draw............ |

Wouldn't this make the season too short for the AFL, especially when they are already starting to lose crowds at games? |

Most definitely. which is why it will never happen. Still it's all I want..... a fair fixture. _________________ No Pressure, No Diamonds

It depends on how well we're tavelling.
If we're premiers,i'd like a 30 round season.
If we're finalists,a 22 round season.
If we're near the bottom,a a 6 round season. |

This.
The only way to have a completely fair fixture is for teams to play each other only once. Won't happen because of TV rights etc, but I would certainly support the concept. Hell it would likely reduce injuries too since players would have more time over the preseason for their bodies to recover, but we all know the well being of players sits at the bottom of the list of things that concern the AFL. |

Merge four teams into two ( making the comp 16 teams)
Greater western sydney and Western Bulldogs. Based in Sydney
North Melbourne and Gold Coast based on Gold Coast
Eradicates the fights over Etihad stadium deals and equalisation.
Use Etihad for agistment for the Australian Olympic Team equestrian horses.
30 round season, no NAB cup and top five as per the 1970's.
Current set up is 198 home and away games plus 9 finals
Proposed set up is 240 games plus 6 finals. _________________ Firm in the belief that number 17 flag is only months away... |
