im a Sidebottom sceptic, sorry Lad.
as a perennial and rigid/believer in every thing black and white
i don't think he finds enough of his own ball.
he glows when the system works but when the going gets tough i wish
he could stand up and show some leadership.
there were glimpses last week but we did win it early on.
sorry |
I really believe in the lad, but I really think we don't play him to his advantages. And I think you're right, he doesn't find enough of his own ball and at times is quite sloppy... still, I think he is a goal sneak - that's my personal opinion. I'd keep the lad near goals more often then not and sometimes throw him through the middle for relief. For some reason the boy seems to finds goals, when given the opportunity - he's a perfect foil for Cloke imho - it's of my opinion that we've been trying 'too' hard to make a midfielder of him and not a small 'opportunistic' forward.. just my opinion. _________________ All Aboard!! Last week, Bucks said that Sinclair's 2 weeks from full training and 4 weeks from playing.
So hopefully full training next week and playing in 3. _________________ Well done boys! |

This gents. Saw neither out there today, but I was finding myself distracted by a car crash down the road and may have missed seeing these two. Pies 08 was absent for a time as well as he went to buy his Decaff Skinny Latte. _________________ Firm in the belief that number 17 flag is only months away... |

Thanks WL for a terrific report. Gault may yet surprise. I watched him over the summer and he is becoming a big unit. Looks like a player, but we will need patience. I'm going down to Vic Park tomorrow morning and my glasses will be trained on Gault and Karnezis. _________________ After the epic draw comes the decisive knockout!

re Sidebottom , one of his greatest assets is his tank , so to play him as a small forward is wasting this asset .
Most things are a compromise , & I guess the coaches think he is more valuable running the legs off opposition players & finding space .
On another observation , he doesn't seem to have put on any weight since he arrived .

Re sidebottom
I was really disappointed with him last week twice he didn't commit his body .....
Getting a bit tired of his dinky 10 metre kicks, he has not come on and delivered on his potential and early promise
Come on Sidey take the next step up, if you don't mate you will be superfluous to needs in a year |

Correct. His tank is his best asset. Disposal and smarts his next best (always funny to read that others think his disposal is poor). He is the best link up player we have and is an important part of our overall ball movement. Thomas and Wellingham used to also be very good linkup players, since they left there's been less support for Sidey. Our run used to be a strength but has become a weakness with these losses, which makes Steele an even more important part of the team.
And those who think he's soft are very wrong. Right from his first season he's always competed well for the ball. But as you point out, he hasn't put on a great deal of muscle and is not very strong, so purposely initiating contact with another player is not often in his interests and he can be brushed aside a bit too easily sometimes.
He hasn't quite developed into a superstar of the game, but he has come on. Third in our best and fairest is a great achievement and 2013 was his best year. _________________ Well done boys!

John Galt is a character in Ayn Rand's novel Atlas Shrugged (1957) ... he is the object of its often-repeated question "Who is John Galt?" and of the quest to discover the answer.
As the plot unfolds, Galt is acknowledged to be a philosopher and inventor; he believes in the power and glory of the human mind, and the right of the individual to use his/her mind solely for him/herself. He serves as a highly individualist counterpoint to the collectivist social and economic structure depicted in the novel, in which society is based on oppressive bureaucratic functionaries and a culture that embraces mediocrity in the name of egalitarianism, which the novel interprets as the end result of socialistic idealism.

My pleasure, Mr Jezza.
A special thank you to the team who delivered the heads of the North Melbourne Pauperoos on a plate to Bucks.
