More great names. Really glad to see someone mention Wayne Schimmulbusch (Cam).

Remember Ed from WA, it's a best 25 overall, not best 22/team, although yours looks super.

What do people remember of Essendon's Leon Baker? Not a player I remember much of, and he's vanished into obscurity it seems, but people talk about his skills in hushed tones - love to see a videotape of the guy in action. Any more thoughts? (Not meaning to bump my own thread along, but I could talk about this stuff all day) ... Weed

leon played in sth bunbury before playing at swan districts,then went to essendon then darwin and who knows where after that.

in every team he played in they won the flag,success followed him it seemed or maybe he took it there.

agree he was a special player,happy to see him wear the b and w in perth anyway.

Hi all,

A couple of weeks ago I quickly rattled off this list of 25 players I considered to be candidates to be the best of the past 25 years. After consideration of other posts, a bit of reflection and remembering some no-brainers I'd forgotten, I have come up with five changes.

Out of the above side I squeezed St Kilda's Nicky Winmar, Essendon's Tim Watson and Terry Daniher, Geelong's Gary Hocking, and very reluctantly, our Premiership captain Tony Shaw. Crying or Very sad

All of the above were magnificent players, as indeed were Michael Tuck, Peter Moore, Ross Glendinning, Wayne Schimmelbusch, Robert Flower, Paul Kelly, Chris Langford, and Bernie Quinlan, all of whom received honourable mentions. I would also like to namecheck Leon Baker (Ess) and Ken Hunter (Carl).

Any of these players would certainly walk into any hypothetical top 50, but we won't go there. While we're at it, some great Pies of the era include Darren Millane, Gavin Brown and the mighty Mick McGuane, all premiership players alongside Daicos and Shaw, but that's a whole new subject for debate!

In the end, though, I couldn't overlook the following for my final top 25 berths:

Glen Jakovich (WC) - cornerstone of the best defence of the 1990s, whose battles with Wayne Carey were both legion and legendary;

Bruce Doull (Carl) - the half-back flanker from hell, the "flying doormat" also deserves recognition for never saying boo in his entire career;

Kevin Bartlett (Rich) - with Leigh Matthews, the greatest goalkicking rover of them all, who played 403 games;

Craig Bradley (Carl) - magnificently durable and influential outside runner; and finally

Malcolm Blight (North) - freakish talent, the Gary Ablett of the 70s and early 80s.

My list therefore now looks like this:

Malcolm Blight (North/Kang)
Kevin Bartlett (Rich)
Leigh Matthews (Hawthorn)
Gary Ayres (Hawthorn)
Dermott Brereton (Hawthorn)
Jason Dunstall (Hawthorn)
Trevor Barker (St Kilda)
Tony Lockett (St Kilda/Swans)
Peter Daicos (Collingwood)
Bruce Doull (Carlton)
Steven Silvagni (Carlton)
Steven Kernaghan (Carlton)
Greg Williams (Carlton)
Craig Bradley (Carlton)
Paul Roos (Fitzroy/Swans)
Gary Ablett (Geelong)
Jim Stynes (Melbourne)
Wayne Carey (North/Kang)
Glen Jakovich (West Coast)
Michael Long (Essendon)
Robert Harvey (St Kilda)
Andrew McLeod (Adelaide)
Nathan Buckley (Collingwood)
James Hird (Essendon)
Michael Voss (Brisbane)

Thanks to everyone for their input.

Fremantle - Pavlich, Bell, Allan, McManus, Hasleby
Geelong - Ablett snr, Couch, Stoneham, King, Bairstow
Hawthorn - Dunstall, Brereton, Platten, Crawford, Matthews
Kangaroos - Carey, Longmire, A.Stevens, Martyn, Archer
