With our list finalised and a new season only 12 weeks away, I thought I'd find a list of players that will be available next offseason.
I know we have a new season to look forward to and a flag to win, but I thought it'd be interesting to see which clubs/players will be in the media all year (Ie. Franklin, Dale, Gaz Jr, etc). And ofcourse which players the nicksters could get their hopes up for.
The following are some of the players set to become free agents next year:
Brisbane Lions
Ash McGrath:
The alomst 31 year old will play his entire career with Brisbane. Cant see much interest for him and I cant see any reason for him to leave.
Carlton
Bryce Gibbs:
Soon to be 25. Will get offers from all over. I'd just love to get one back on them for getting Dale.
Kade Simpson:
Soon to be 30. Will retire a Blue.
Jarrad Waite:
Very close to 31. Dont think much interest will come his way.
Andrew Walker:
Will be 28 next year. Would be a nice fit at any club.
Marc Murphy:
Wow. He'll get offers from everyone inside Vic. Carlton will beat any offer to keep him I reckon. As their captain, you cant see him moving on. But geez, wouldnt it be sweet if he did?!
Collingwood
Harry O'Brien:
Perth clubs might make a move. Mick will probably be trying to get in his ear too. Gut feeling is he will stay.
Ben Reid:
Unlikly to leave. Collingwood will do anything to keep him, but other clubs will try to lure him for sure.
Dane Swan:
Interesting one. Gut feeling is he will play here until he retires. But with Swan, you never know.
Essendon
Heath Hocking:
Might get some interest, but not super high on most clubs list.
Leroy Jetta:
Lucky to still be on an AFL list imo. Bombers would have moved him on, but he's got another chance to do something. If anything would most likly be a rookie draft prospect for someone.
Fremantle
Garrick Ibbotson:
Will be 26, from WA. No chance to leave.
David Mundy:
Would be a big land, but will be 29 in July. Gut feeling is he will stay.
Luke McPharlin:
Will stay. Cant see much point in him leaving.
Matthew Pavlich:
Clubs might ask the question. But with Freo's window open, he will not leave. Has been very loyal to that club.
Aaron Sandilands:
Live Pavlich, would be silly to leave. Age is catching up with him tho, so will remain a Docker for life.
Geelong
Steve Johnson:
He'll stay there for life. Some clubs might enquire about his plans though.
James Kelly:
Has dropped of a little, and at age 30 will attract slim interest. Will retire a Cat.
Hawthorn
Luke Hodge & Sam Mitchell:
Both will remain Hawks for life.
Melbourne
James Frawley:
25 years old and wants to play finals. We dont really have a shortage of tall defenders with Reid, Brown, Keeffe. Gut feeling is he will leave and a club, like Hawthorn, will pounce.
North Melbourne
Todd Goldstein:
I think he'll stay. Clubs will be looking for good ruckman though.
Lachie Hansen:
Has been disappoingting really. 25 years old and might look for a new start. Would be relativly cheap.
Lindsay Thomas:
Will remain a Roo. Perth clubs might ask the question though.
Port Adelaide
Travis Boak:
Will stay for sure. Showed loyalty last time and after their impressive season, he'd be silly to move on. Clubs will throw cash at him however.
St Kilda
Sam Fisher:
Will retire a Saint. GWS could have had him now.
James Gwilt:
Will get little interest.
Sydney Swans
Adam Goodes:
Would be insane to leave. Would be interesting to see him at another club though. Will never happen. Expect a one year deal to be signed.
Ryan O'Keefe, Nick Malceski & Ted Richards:
Will all retire as Swans.
West Coast
Shannon Hurn:
SA clubs will make a move. Would be a great pick up.
Matt Priddis:
Almost 29. Unlikly to leave. Cannot question his attack on the ball, but kicking an issue. Like Mundy, would be a short fix replacement if we lost a mid to retirement (cant see anyone giving it away yet), a serious LTI or F/A.
Western Bulldogs
Matthew Boyd:
Would be sensational to get. Wont leave the kennel, but like Boak, clubs will contact his management.
Shaun Higgins:
Coming up to 26. Will leave for sure in my mind. Will expect Geelong to make an offer. Injury has slowed his development, but could still be a handy pick up.
Will Minson & Robert Murphy:
I thought both had signed extensions? If not, they will soon. Murphy for one and Minson longer. _________________ A Goal Saved Is 2 Goals Earned! |

Marc Murphy is pissed that Thomas is on more $$, Hawks will be the club in the box seat to snare him if he wants to leave. Carlton will no doubt try to sign him up this year. Will he do a Buddy or a Travis and draw it out? |

I don't think Murphy would leave, but you never know.
Be good to get stuck into Higgins now, He would slot in well at the Pies and going by his age, still has plenty of years ahead of him. |

Higgins has the pain threshold of an infant. Has talent but doesn't get on the park enough to warrant a play at him. _________________ One team, one dream - the Pies and this year's premiership |

Only one I see that's worth grabbing is walker, and even then we'll only get a couple of decent years out of him. Anyone else of note will be too much $$$ for not enough investment. |

Murphy when you take into account probable years remaining and his career to date would be the biggest fish in the pool. _________________ He's mad. He's bad. He's MaynHARD! |

^^^ Can't take Dangerfield: with the new emphasis on extreme speed at Collingwood, there is just too much risk that he will run into Nathan Freeman or Johnno Marsh at training and that the impact at speed will be so extreme that both will spontaneously combust. |
