I'm no fan of Microsoft, but tech and data analytics-dependent companies don't dominate US large-cap stocks because use of the Internet is "discretionary", as the Neanderthals who still think the Internet is for teenage fun, porn and little more would deceive a naive Australian public into believing.
Blocking the data-oriented, motion-computing-driven, remote manufacturing, remote service-delivering, AI-oriented, information premium-based future economy is not simply ignorant, it's disgracefully unethical and self-destructive.
news.com.au article wrote: | SOFTWARE giant Microsoft says the Abbott government should reconsider its national broadband network (NBN) policy.
The former Labor government's fibre-to-the-home plan is superior to the coalition's cheaper policy of running optical fibres to street exchanges, Microsoft Australia managing director Pip Marlow says.
Microsoft argues that a fibre-to-the home NBN would deliver faster speeds than the coalition's hybrid optical fibre and copper cable program.
"Ultimately, if you don't get fibre to the home, the biggest impact really is the upload speeds," she told AAP at a Committee for Economic Development of Australia event.
Microsoft is lobbying communications minister Malcolm Turnbull and other government members, Ms Marlow said.
"We're encouraging the government to be looking at all the options and really understanding how businesses, how schools, how individuals will be using this technology," she said.
"We think that needs to be looked at." |

The reason for no fibre to the home is because Murdoch is terrified that superfast broadband will kill off the Foxtel golden goose. Like the canal owners who violently tried to smash the railroads, so is the old tech trying to kill off the new tech as much as possible.
Now the question becomes how do the Liberals pay the piper that played the tune they wanted through the election? They can give News Corp channel 10, review anti siphoning laws or kill off fibre to the home (well make sure it's a user cost to get it connected). Time will tell which one/s happen. |

Whereas if you believe what Turnbull and the Liberal Party says about most things, you are loopier than a cereal box, and if you believe anything that Turnbull and the Liberal Party says about the NBN they are so busy wrecking, you are so damn loopy we could put you in as bowl and pour milk over you anytime we need some instant high-fat tooth decay.

I love the Telstra management quotes about the copper being fine, they're trying to SELL it for use in the new system. When some sucker comes along and wants to buy your clapped out VL, you don't tell him that you fixed the radiator with some gaffer tape and your cousin vinnie welded a steel plate over a huge hole in the boot... you just sell it to him.
Thing is, Turnbull looked the car over and knows it's a shitbox but can't get out of it, his boss wants that Car because HIS bosses told him to buy it. Watching Turnbull trying to sell this idea is quite funny, because he knows it's a load of horseshit that he's spouting but has to spout it anyway.
Fiber to the Node then having customer pay the fee for connection to the home would make a hell of a lot more sense than reusing the shitty copper network. Telcos could put the cost into plans and contract people like they do with mobiles/cable plans. It would create competition on installations of node-home connections driving down costs and also allow competition from telcos willing to subsidise connections.
For a so-called free market capitalist party the Liberals sure like to find bloated socialized solutions. |

No conflict of interests for Ziggy (so nuke me) Zwitkowski former CEO of Telstra - no interest in it for them to keep the NBN _________________ “I even went as far as becoming a Southern Baptist until I realised they didn’t keep ‘em under long enough” Kinky Friedman |
