FWIW, I thought Grundy showed some positive signs in his first game. Can mark, likes a physical contest, can jump and can ruck. Pretty much the reverse cam wood. Ws played mainly forward and sparingly at that, just to give him a run. Will be better second up.

One thing I noticed, Gault has grown. He's listed at 198cm but is taller than Hudson (listed at 199) and close to Keeffe (204) in height. I hope once this kid gets a couple more kilos on him we move him forward, teach him the defensive bit then take off the shackles.

I heard a bloke near me complaining that Dids must be sleeping with Bucks missus as that's the only possible reason he can't be playing in the AFL team. Guy needs to see an optometrist. Stat.

Did's when he gets the ball is still a class finisher but the speed is gone, the evasiveness has diminished, the intensity is marginal. He may get a gig at some stage this year and I would love for him to do well, but on VFL form I just can't see it happening. Johno is way ahead in calculations IMO.

Keeffe got himself into a few situations that would have tested the knee and didn't flinch which was a great sign. He definitely looks like he spent the time off his feet doing weights, he's becoming a serious unit and hasn't lost any speed. He like Grundy will be better second up.

Thanks for the updates MB Smile

What a fantastic victory for the Collingwood VFL side. I thought we would struggle after Essendon's five goal head start, but the team's comeback and response was magnificent. There were plenty of encouraging signs by the looks of it.

Kyle Martin is going to be a gem. He's going to be a player of the future. Good to see Paine pop with another couple of goals on the board. Maybe he'll be considered this week against Brisbane. Josh Thomas didn't do anything wrong and it's good to see that he showed why he shouldn't have been dropped in the first place. If Jolly doesn't play next week, I can easily see Hudson replacing him.

Didak is no longer the same player he once was. Stui's post sums up my thoughts on Dids as well. I've loved watching him, but I feel the end is near and he'll retire at the end of the year as many expect him to. I do hope we can see him appear in the team and kind of farewell him.

As always, it was my pleasure, Jezza.

The thing with Paine, though, is that it was a game that was the story of the season for him so far. Yes, he kicked 3 goals, but he also had 4 misses (2 set shot behinds, a set shot that missed everything and a behind from a tumbling, dribbling Daicos-esque attempt along the ground in the pocket.

So, it could almost have been 5 goals, and as many as 7 goals had everything gone right for him. This is not to downplay his performance, but it does sort of tally with his performances so far this year: he kicks the unmissable ones and takes some truly great contested grabs, but fails to convert once forced to kick from beyond 30-35 metres out.

And for a prospective FF who would be playing as a 2nd marking key forward behind Cloke in the seniors, that kind of kicking is not what we need (more of) at AFL level.

What also concerned me was how the VFL team tended to mirror the bad habit of the seniors in that we spent good portions of the match trying to put it on Paine's head, only for the extra Bombers defender (Hardingham, for example) to swoop in and either spoil or intercept mark.

Fortunately, we re-discovered our goal kicker spread, of sorts, with Broomhead/Moloney/Martin/Ferguson/Didak/Mooney/Richmond all getting on the scoreboard.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not potting Jacko for the sake of it. But he does have areas of his game that need substantial work before he becomes enough of a threat to really starting impacting at AFL level...

Very very similar 3rd. Unfortunately they have a similar problem with coast to coast scores from opposition kick outs.

This.

We also have the same problem with opposition smalls as well. Dell'Ollio carved Sinclair up with 5, for example...

^ It was my absolute pleasure, thompsoc.

Your example is exactly the reason why I do this: for people who don't have the time to watch the LiveChat and who just want the scores when they hit refresh every 10, 15, 20 minutes.

35. Brodie Grundy
McRae Says: His first official game (of any type) for the club so we had limited expectations but in some ways he exceeded them. Made his biggest impact late when he had a presence around the contest in the ruck and in general play. A solid start playing more as a forward than as a ruckman.
Statistics: 4 kicks, 3 marks, 3 handballs, 2 tackles, 7 hitoutsx

Sounded like he was getting the Rust out and Glad to hear he helped us win the Game with his Ruckwork Late:) :thumbsu:
