Guess it must just be LD's urban cyber-myth. It aggrevates me every time I see it, so I thought I'd see if I could out why it happens.
I'm not sure what you mean by lack of passion Ruddeger, there's no shortage here. If you mean lack of swearing then you might be right in that we lose a bit of colour, but swearing does not equal passion.
We have made and reaffirmed the decision not to allow needless swearing several times. The reason is that this board caters to everybody regardless of age or sensibility and you can't see who's around you here, the way you can at the footy. Once we allow complete freedom of language we exclude people. I understand that by not allowing swearing we might be excluding those who don't feel they can be passionate unless they swear, but that's the trade off we've made. It's one or the other... and there are other sites that don't worry too much about language that will cater to you... but I can't give you the address.
If you weren't referring to swearing then I apologise for the lecture.
Actually I wasn't asking what alienated people, but it might be handy to know - I can't afford the bandwidth as it is. |

Nah, swearing I agree is unneccessary in the scheme of things.
It just seems to me that there isn't much difference in opinion around here, at least compared to other places. And yeah it may be an urban/cyber myth, but that lack of argument might be through fear of recrimination more than anything.
That's just what it seems like from a (relative) outsider's perspective. |

I find this site very well run and things are left to sort themselves out.
Everyone has an opinion and Nick's gives us all a chance to voice it.
I personally don't like bagging players/ coaches/ staff and don't read those posts too much. But I can choose to do that on Nick's.
The only thing that I don't like is if a fellow member of Nicks has a personal go at me......but that too can sort itself out without any interference from the mods.
Nick's is open to all Collingwood supporters who can access a computer........from the very young to us oldies.
I do think that more people should be aware that there are a lot of youngsters here on this site.
Well done to Mike and all connected with the daily running of this great site. _________________ Kaylene.

magpie_1983 I started it. I just used something that you posted as an excuse because it raised something that often bugs me and I thought I'd try to find out if anyone knew why it happens.
My question didn't get answered, probably because there is no answer, but I think it turned into a worthwhile exercise. Bit of mutual admiration never goes astray. |

There's plenty of 'argument' here, but if the debate is not about what you are interested in, or the style ain't to your taste, fine. Some people get their 2 bob's worth in on every thread, others are different. Everyone's got their own style.
Fear of recrimination???? You mean you'll be harassed????
or what????
Posts get edited here if they break the guidelines for posting....(read the link on the index page if you are interested), and the people who Mike mentioned that were banned were persistant offenders and made, in the end, zilcho effort to post within the guidelines, and were given several chances to bring their behaviour in line with the guidlines. Where's the recrimination in that?
I think it works like this, if some people keep saying it, plenty of others will believe it. Politicians have used it since the year dot. Is there any truth in the 'myth' about Nicks? I don't think so, but that's my opinion, if you think so, so be it, but you won't cop 'recrimination', you're just expected to follow the guidelines of the site.
If you don't like the style of the place, fine, doesn't mean it's bad, doesn't mean it's good, it's just not your style. End of story. It's a bit like pubs, some you like, some you don't. It's just the style of the place.
I read other pie boards, but don't post on the a lot, simply because I spend a bit of time on here doing moderating stuff, and as I don't actually get to see much football (especially live), I really couldn't add much to any debate about the relative merits of a player/tactic/whatever, apart from the odd smart ass comment!
...and Ruddeger, I'm not directing this at you, it's more of an observation on the comment I quoted. |
