After a second hiatus in the space of a month, due to the representative game, Tarkyn's Lockyer's men will be seeking to atone for a last quarter fadeout against Bendigo when they make the trip across town to the leafy surrounds of Chirnside Park to take on VFL premiership contender Werribee this Saturday.
The Pies are coming off a disappointing loss to Bendigo, after pulling off the upset of the century against Port Melbourne the week before. Werribee, on the other hand, have started to get their season back on track with victories over Frankston and the Northern Blues in recent weeks, after starting off the season with heavy losses to Box Hill and Port Melbourne.
With the current composition of the ladder, this match shapes up as an “eight point game” for both sides as the field of premiership contenders begins to narrow heading into the middle stages of the season. For Werribee, a win will potentially see the Tigers move into the top 4, pending the results of other games. For Collingwood, victory will see the Pies move above Coburg who have the bye, and potentially into the top 8 at the expense of Bendigo, who face a tough assignment against Williamstown at Windy Hill.
Selections for Collingwood will be, as always, of keen interest to Magpie supporters, but given the nature of upcoming senior games, the potential for some Collingwood youngsters to see further AFL game time adds some intrigue to this week’s selection news. The Magpies will regain the services of several youngsters, with Jackson Paine, Paul Seedsman and Luke Rounds all likely to return from injury. Veteran defender Chris Tarrant will also see further action at VFL level as he makes his return from a calf complaint. From the VFL list, expect to see captain Kris Pendlebury back up his solid performance for the Big V with another quality showing in defence. Key forward Matthew Boland, inside tackling machine Ricky Ferraro and midfielder Jack Hellier will also be looking to continue with their hitherto solid form.
The soft nature of the next two AFL games will see fringe players such as Cameron Wood, Tom Young and Kirk Ugle come into contention for senior duties, but don’t be surprised to see the names of Jarrod Witts and Jonathon Ceglar also come into the mix, with questions marks hanging over the form of some senior Magpie players. Football fans in general will be salivating at the prospect of a ruck battle between the boy-mountain Witts and the athletic behemoth that is Werribee ruckman and North Melbourne rookie Majak Daw
This is a must-win game for the VFL Magpies, as the club seeks to compete for a place in the finals. The players will also be seeking to atone for a disappointing capitulation to Bendigo in their last match. Recent form would lean towards Werribee, but the Magpies have had the ability to be competitive against higher-ranking sides so far in 2012, even beating the ladder leaders. Werribee have been the better performed side so far this year, but have had a tendency to blow hot and cold.
It will make for an interesting contest nonetheless.
Tip: Pies by 8 points.

Take the Werribee line train to Werribee. Get off and use the station underpass to emerge out into the carpark. Turn right into Watton Street and proceed west along Watton Street until you come to Chirnside Park oval (or Avalon Airport Oval, as it is called under the sponsorship arrangement these days). It is about a 1.2km walk.
Alternatively, you could take a taxi or get a mate to pick you up at the station... _________________ I am vengeance. I am the night. I am MagpieBat. |

Don't listen to that crap Dave.
Just get the Metro Werribee line train and call me when you get to the station. I will pick you up. Can you be there by 1:30? _________________ "MAKE COLLINGWOOD GRATE AGAIN" |

No Mooney, Gault or McNamara, two of which I really like! Mooney being rested for next week vs D's perhaps?
Still a little top heavy, if you're quick or can get the footy you'll get a game Hellier, Ferrero (my new fav), S.Williams, Wallace, Cathcart. Boland not much chance with Witts, Ceglar, Wood (I hope), Taz and Paine and back line is covered for talls with Hartley making a rare appearance Pendles and Lach Smith.
Who the hell is Head? Bring back Brad Dick and stick em both in the fwd line!! |

Heagney-Steart in line to make his VFL debut as the 23rd man.
Good to see the return of Hartley and Paine. Hopefully Hartley can stay injury free and show some good form, because with our track record for injuries to backmen, we may have to elevate him.

That's right.
It's real name is Chirnside Park, but for the last few years it has been named "Avalon Airport Oval" as part of a naming rights agreement.
Kinda like how Kardinia Park is known as "Simmonds Stadium". Unless you're on the ABC... _________________ I am vengeance. I am the night. I am MagpieBat. |
