The dominance of a good rucking division cannot be underestimated, as so many people seem to do. I have done some research and looked back over the years to find that, in most cases, the successful teams tended to have the most dominant rucking divisions.

I have the stats that show where each team is ranked at the end of the year.
Premiers Runners up
1994 West Coast ranked 1st Geelong ranked 3rd
1995 Carlton ranked 3rd Geelong ranked 9th
1996 Nth Melbourne ranked 8th Sydney ranked 13th
1997 Adelaide ranked 1st ST. Kilda ranked 2nd
1998 Adelaide ranked 1st Nth Melbourne ranked 8th
1999 Kangaroos ranked 4th Carlton ranked 2nd
2000 Essendon ranked 6th Melbourne ranked 1st
2001 Brisbane ranked 1st Essendon ranked 10th
2002 Brisbane ranked 3rd Collingwood ranked 10th

There has only been one occasion that a grand final has been played with both teams having a relatively poor ruck division, 1996.

As you all can see from the stats below, the highest ranked team always finishes in the top 4, or makes the Grand Final (Adelaide, 1998)
The top 4 positions on the ladder at the end of each Home and Away season.

1994
West Coast ranked 1st
Carlton ranked 5th
Nth Melbourne ranked 8th
Geelong ranked 3rd

1995
Carlton ranked 3rd
Geelong ranked 9th
Richmond ranked 6th
Essendon ranked 1st

1996
Sydney ranked 13th
Nth Melbourne ranked 8th
Brisbane ranked 1st
West Coast ranked 7th

1997
ST. Kilda ranked 2nd
Geelong ranked 9th
Western Bulldogs ranked 4th
Adelaide ranked 1st

1998
Nth Melbourne ranked 8th
Western Bulldogs ranked13th
Sydney ranked 11th
Melbourne ranked3rd
· Note Adelaide ranked 1st, finished 5th and won GF

1999
Essendon ranked 10th
Kangaroos ranked 4th
Brisbane ranked 1st
Western Bulldogs ranked 9th

2000
Essendon ranked 6th
Carlton ranked 2nd
Melbourne ranked 1st
Kangaroos ranked 3rd

2001
Essendon ranked 10th
Brisbane ranked 1st
Port Adelaide ranked 3rd
Richmond ranked 6th

2002
Port Adelaide ranked 2nd
Brisbane ranked 3rd
Adelaide ranked 1st
Collingwood ranked 10th

So what do these stats mean to you????

Well stoid you certainly are determined! We could use you on the backline, CHB maybe, Carey wouldn't get a kick against you!

But you know what they say about statistics -
"lies, damn lies, and statistics"

Well, at least here we are in agreement - a good ruck division (ruckman plus class midfield) should not be underestimated. who does?

But so many people overestimate the value of the tap ruckman
(last parting shot) eg poor old Capuano, sooo one dimentional can't get a game with losers

Proto is right mate, you have got WAY too much time on your hands. lol
Enjoyed the banter. cheers
