Heard that too, Bryan. Got a tear in my eye.
Bob was a GREAT player and is a lovely man.
Here's hoping he comes through his operation OK and has a full recovery. _________________ Donny.

They just read a statement on 3AW saying that Bob Rose has been diagnosed with a duodenal tumour and secondary cancer.
What a sad thing to happen to a wonderful man who has spent so many years caring for his son.
Best wishes to Bob and his family. _________________ If you bleed black and white you'll never walk alone. |

Here is the press release, courtesy of Radioshark on Bigfooty:
Quote: | Bob Rose has learned that he has a duodenal tumour and secondary cancers. The situation is serious, but treatment is underway. Bob Rose is at home. He is grateful for the good wishes of his friends in the football world, and knows that people will respect his need for quiet and privacy at this time.

Bob rose was a great coach no doubt about that. THe 1970 team was a well-oiled precision machine, the Lionel Rose of footy, Price and Richardson delivering raking 50 meter passes to McKenna etc.
I imagine one of his worst moments might have been losing hte 70 grand final (it was one of mine at the time as a nipper). the only reason they lost the GF was that McKenna was off injured early (1st or 2nd quarter) and they still only lost by 10 points. Even more unlucky than when they lost Peter Moore in the finals years later, or Jason cloke last year. they call it the colliwobbles but seems more like a jinx to me.
In my book it was a moral premiership to Bob Rose that year.
Get well soon Bob. |

I've met Bob Rose a couple of times over the years and his sincerity and honesty struck me. He is an indefinable part of Collingwood.I wish him all the very best and hope his fighting spirit sees him through this crisis. |

A real Collingwood legend (an oft abused line, but in Bob's case probably an understatement) and a true gentleman...I hope you get yourself back on the road to recovery soon. |
