Post subject: Who was 3 and 3 after Rd 6 in 2001? | |
|
I mentioned this in Cam's excellent "Shut Up, Sit Down thread", but was immediately buried by Hal.
I think it bares repeating on its own.
Brisbane was 3-3, that's who! And they even went 4-4, after some beatings as unexpected as those we have suffered.
Remind me - who won the premiership in 2001?
Who knows if this is how it will go for the mighty Pies, but the point is it can happen. |

WhyPhilWhy?,
Don't worry about HAL. Nothing he says is worth pi$$ing on.
But as to who won the Premiership in `01, it was the Doggies right? |

Did I say Doggies?
I meant the Dees!
My bad
But in all seriousness, people writing us off after Round 6 is ridiculous. I mean we made the GF last year, and it wasn't exactly easy going to Adelaide and we thought the Crows would have put up more of a fight.
But in the end this is basically the same list that got us there, with a few additions Woey(little slump right now) and Williams spring to mind. And with Tarrant running hot right now with Rocca, and Molloy healthy and doing a good job this season, I still think we're a threat.
HAL = BOT? Ahuh. That explains it. |

History does provide good lessons - looking back to 2001, 2002 etc. It DOES show that unexpected things can happen and that losing heart now is way too premature. Perfect example was the semi vs Port, man I sooo gave up. Seriously posted some "it would be nice to win this but the reality is...." over on FTOs. And then the game, the win, the atmosphere, the turnaround. All this can and will occur again. Your right Athos, the team is there, gelling slowly.
But human nature being what it is most people, including myself, deal with football on a weekly basis - live and breathe from weekend to weekend. Am usually fairly analytical in my approach to post mortems, but I was completely rattled vs ess, total despair vs sth melb. I come to the BB looking for answers amongst like minded and hook into the positive energy generated by some really upbeat people.Never thought of looking back to see what is possible. Thanx for the view. cheers |

Its worth noting that we dont have the luxury of a formidable home ground advantge that Brisbane enjoys. How many home games had Brisbane played in the first 6 rounds ?? I think you will find that they were on the road for many of the first 6 weeks ??

Good Point WPW.
As is my want, I went back over the last 10 years, after 6 rounds:
2002: brisbane - 5W 1L
2001: brisbane - 3W 3L
2000: essendon - 6W 0L
1999: kangaroos - 2W 4L
1998: adelaide - 2W 4L
1997: adelaide - 2W 4L
1996: kangaroos - 5W 1L
1995: carlton - 6W 0L (cheats)
1994: west coast - 4W 2L
1993: essendon - 2W 3L 1D
So as you can see, exactly as WPW states, 3-3 after 6 rounds is certainly not the time to be talking about next season. We are in the hunt for this years flag, and don't forget it.

Or too early hey MissMagpie_20 hehe...
Exactly fellow posters. Rd 6 is way too early too be jumping off or saying we'll win the flag. Well be right though, don't you worry, I'd rather be in form later on than now. Start from this week against the crows, that will do... _________________ Ohhhh the premierships a cakewalk for the good old COLLINGWOOD |

i hear alot of people claiming that maybe we arent as good as we think we are, and that we "winged it" in the finals last year. sure our form going into the finals wasnt the best. but when the challenge was there the boys rose up did what was needed. what happened to all these top 4 teams that everyone was wanking about? bowed out. theres no fluke in going to adelaide and beating the minor premiers and then beating the crows. the fact is the pies played their best when they had to. everyone will see this happen again this year, starting this week at the same place we had our backs to the wall last year. sure, its disapointing start to the year, we all know wat the pies are capable of, so to write them off this early is stupidity. watch out crows. the pies are coming.......... |

lol this topic is so clutching at straws, who cares where brissy were in 2001.
i reckon we'll improve eventually and do it our own way not just bcos brissy did this and that.
also i reckon we are over rating ourselves, we've only won against shitty teams like richmond carlton and geelong, good game against brissy but the last 2 weeks have been shockers, i think we'll start going back up when we play WC in 2 weeks. |

I think StKilda will run us into a bit of form.......lol
I just hope the younger players can start performing to help keep the pressure for spots in the senior team. Players like Scotland, Cole, Shaw need to put their hands up and command a senior role in the team as opposed to being fringe players.
