Shouldn't the title of this thread read "AFL show just how touchy they are about Brisbane's $600,000 advantage'? |

agreed WPW. I am 100% behind Eddie and there is no embarrassment for anyone over this. So we made a banner that the AFL didn't like. Lets' publicise it I say. Let them see that we stand behind Ed. let the world know that the AFL decided to change our banner, not us.
I say well done ed. This thread should be support for Eddie and the powers that be who decide on what goes on our banner. No egg on our face....just the AFL. I hope all channels get footage and it enflames the situation....the more it's seen as "unacceptable" the more likely the afl are going to do something about it.

what was the point of banning it bcos it the afl sook, well i hoped they realised that it actually got more publicity cos they sooked about it, it was everywhere.
prolly the only week where i could actually tell u wat the banner says as i actually dont pay a lot of attention to them, however now that there was a big uproar regarding this one, ppl noticed it more therefore the aflg ot wrecked haha. |

whats the big deal anyway, everyone knows that some clubs are up in arms over the salary cup etc that the lions and the swans have, so why ban it!!!!!!!. If they banned it then shouldn;t they ban all mention of this in the papers, the news etc.
Its in all the papers every day almost, people are talking about somewhere,so why did the AFL ban it!!!!!!!!!!!!!. _________________ Jarrod Molloy

What I don't understand is that it was all true -
-- is it meant to be a secret that Lyins salary cap is $600,000 more than other clubs
-- as for the reference to 'bears' - my god ! They have ' BBFFC ' on the back of their jumpers - brisbane bears fitzroy football club . |

The salary cap issue is the biggest joke in the AFL (now that the draft is relatively equal).
For me it comes down to one simple question: "Should we give Sydney/Brisbane any concessions in order to promote Aussie Rules in NSW and QLD?"
Once you answer that question, you have your arguments. If you say yes, then how far do you go? Playing Personnel: Do we give them several brilliant players so they are more likely to win flags and therefore attract interest? Finances: Do we financially subsidise their existence until they sustain themselves? Salary Cap: Do we allow them to pay more players more money in order for them to keep brilliant players?
Playing Personnel
- - - - - - - - - - - -
In the late 80s/early 90s the AFL gave Brisbane:
- Michael Voss (1991)
- Jason Akermanis (1994)
- Daryl White (1991)
- Marcus Ashcroft (1988)
- Clark Keating (1991)
There's the nucleus of a (dual, triple?) Premiership side and all but Keating played on Thursday so you can see how any similar decisions made today will effect Magpie fortunes for the next decade. Indeed as recently as 2001 Brisbane were still given free local picks of players outside the draft:
Jamie Charman (2000)
Robert Copeland (2001)
For more information see:

Finances:
- - - - - -
The AFL no doubt had a leading role in getting Brisbane's first two big major sponsors: Coke and CUB. Before this Brisbane was supported by Rueben Pelerman and that champion of reputable businessmen, Christopher Skase.
Salary Cap:
- - - - - - - -
As if it wasn't enough to give brisbane one third of a (dual, triple) Premiership starting 18, the AFL has seen fit to continually allow them to pay more to those players and others they've legitimately recruited so they won't go elsewhere for $$$.
Cut their cap now!
