Pies sign ball sponsor

21mar03

COLLINGWOOD has become the first AFL club to secure their own ball sponsor, chief executive Greg Swann said today.

Workwear clothing sponsor Yakka will have its brand on footballs on Magpie home games in 2003.

"Yakka have been a sponsor of the Collingwood Football Club for almost 30 years, being our first major sponsor to appear on our jumper in 1976," Swann said.

"It is fitting that Yakka have now become our first ball sponsor."

Clubs were asked to find ball sponsors after the AFL failed to find a suitable - $1 million-plus - ball sponsor for this season.

The league had hoped each club sponsorship would reap $150,000, of which a third would go back into the AFL.

Blood money.
Yakka has been an industrial institution in Australia for a very long time.
Last year they made the decision to move their factories to Fiji.
This involved the closure of the local factory at Shepparton, resulting in the loss of 100+ aussie jobs.
Other factories in the chain are closing and being moved off shore as we speak.
So it is not suprising that they are trying to involve themselves with us, but please, when next looking at Yakka, or King Gee, clothing, remember that despite the aussie flag on the Yakka logo, the money is leaving the country.

woops I can see where this is going.

Perhaps it's best to leave this debate at 1 all, and let it be carried on somewhere else.

It's the political debate thing, ya know.
