Third rate team at the moment.
Skill level was deplorable.
AJ looks all at sea.
Don't see much in Schultz at the moment.
We were far too loose.
Umpiring was strange even though we had more frees.
Lucky we won the cup last year because at the moment we are not a top 8 side by a country mile

Why did this season ever have to start?I was quite happy to bask in the glory of last year’s premiership win. It looks like they players were too.

No desire at all. The players don’t want it. Watch Sydney chase, tackle, smother and run to position.

Awful performance. Easily the worst we’ve seen under Fly so far in his coaching tenure.

Looks like 2024 is going to be a year of challenges. I’m hoping it’s a slow burn and we’re not Geelong 2023. It’s how we respond over the coming weeks that will make or break the season.

The highlight of the night was the unfurling and seeing some old club greats there like Thorold Merrett, Dennis Banks and Syd Coventry Jr (representing his father who was captain of the 1927 team).

As I said, players were too busy in their circle jerk to put in any effort during the offseason.
Looks like Flys game plan has been found out. 2 rounds in. Got a cats of 23 reek to it…

Positives. Finn macrae, Schultz with two. Cameron again. Naicos
Negatives. Back line skill errors gave away too many goals.

Backline poo, fwd line poo and team defence the worst of all.

I don't think Schultz was any positive news.
We need a big bodied player in the forward line not another midget.

Surely no one seriously thinks we can contend with no genuine KPF???
McStay helped get us there last year with his two goals a game and the occasional bail out pack mark. Now we have NOTHING. Unless Fly and Co. invent some small ball masterclass we won’t make the 8. Probably be 0-4 or 0-5 before we even realise the season has started.

But yeah, I was happily binging in 2023 premiership content for the better part of 5 months. Trust the AFL to cut our celebrations short by a few weeks and ruin our 2024 campaign with a horribly rough and early start draw. GWS get to play North and WCE the next fortnight. That’s fair .

Bombers even haven’t played but they look a better chance to get to 17 before we do

We have no forward line, no backline, and when your midfield is headed by an aging 36 year old, this club is in serious trouble. Worse, haven't we given up our first round draft pick this year.?The only positive coming out of this game is that it hastens the retirement of several players. We go the same way as Geelong last year. Hope players like Ryan, Allan, Macrae, Sullivan and McInnes are up to it because they're our future now. Nothing can take away from our premiership win last year. Few teams win again the following year. When you have the oldest list in the AFL I don't know what people were expecting this year.

In the game thread Black and White Lions posted something that is worth everyone seeing here. We have not been discrete.

Quote:
One thing that has occurred to me tonight. We’ve all been enjoying the video access to pretty much every external training session across the summer. Great video great training great to see for all the fans.

Great to see for all the opposition clubs too. They have us worked out. Look at their positioning through the middle in transition, blocking the run and overlap chains and steering the ball inside our Fwd 50 to the defenders advantage more often than not.

Time to stop posting videos of our training sessions

All I have to add is this:

From chocolates to boiled lollies and champagne to warm beer in just two weeks.
