Jeez Laurie - hard marker. J Daicos B&F in a flag side as well as AA and AA40 last year.

Tom Mitchell - 3x b and f, two AA and a Brownlow!!

I think Elliott was an A grader for about 4-6 weeks last year where he might have kicked 20 goals. Hard down forward to be on every game though (unless you’re Toby Greene). Imagine if he had been able to play 20+ games a season for his whole career…

We are blessed to have some great players.

I’ll add to the conversation again, how many of our players are better now than they were 3 years ago? Now do the same exercise for our rivals. I think our best player is the coaching approach which can take a player and make them 10-20% better to get the absolute best out of them.

^points valid but as per thread subject I was referring to likely A graders for season 2024.
NB while Mitchells CV has few peers, John Noble polled more AFLCA votes in 2023.

Going into 2024, those that I view as truly fit A grade are ~
Pendlebury - to do what he did in the GF was evidence enough he is still elite in every aspect.
Moore - while CHF has been historically viewed as the most important position on the field, CHB then has to be second.
Naicos - looms as a generational talent given his exploits to date.
JDG - his 2022 and 2023 seasons have edged him into this category. He's matured from a precocious to prodigious talent.

some of those that nudge it on a regular basis:
Beau - perhaps not consistantly as some but his pressure is A and he doesn't do a lot wrong.
Markov - has become much more reliable and his form is on the up - how he comes out this year I don't know but late last year I'd say he was nudging it.
Cox - ok so not an all rounder I admit but he mixes it with the best rucks and has deceptively good hand eye. Every now and then I'd think I'm glad we have him over the best rucks in the comp

As an aside, when (if ever) does a player stop becoming an a grader? Or if you were one are you always one?

I presume you’re not saying Noble is an A grader. Mitchell polled enough votes to finish #30 in the Brownlow. Comfortably top 5% in the comp. I expect he will still be one of our best for season 2024.

We can all argue about how many 'A' graders we have on our list, but the fact is we have 22 proven Premiership winning players on our list.

^^ As Laurie highlighted: the title of the thread is literally how many A graders do we have (in 2024).

Perhaps to your point - too many A graders will be both unaffordable under the cap and also potentially not derive the right collective outcomes (Melbourne? Brisbane? Giants?).

I wonder if internally the team think a guy like WHE is an A grader because they have a different understanding of his role and know he plays it very well?

At this stage, you'd say 1 A grader in Naicos and an up and comer in D Cameron

Darcy Moore and Degoey should be.
