My favourite obscure stat:

Collingwood has headed the premiership table (ie had the most premierships at any given time) longer than the other 17 clubs all put together.

According to Glenn McFarlanes' fantastic bio of Jock McHale, Jock was dirty on Minogue for switching to Richmond and never forgave him. (On the flipside to that, Minogue was a war hero and their were some rumblings at the time that Jock being a staunch Irish Catholic and anti-English avoided the war for personal political reasons)

Nice work. What about all the other current AFL coaches? Is there a link there for all of them?

I can't verify as I don't know if I've always taken the most direct route, but of the current coaches it seems like Hardwick and Kingsley have the fewest steps back to McHale (having been coached by Mark Williams, who was coached by Bob Rose). Anyone who was coached by Williams or Tony Shaw would be in the same category – so Bucks would join that club if he ever returns to coaching, as would Scott Burns if he ever gets a gig.

It also seems like there's a maximum six degrees of separation.

Any luck David in the hope you've found a connection in your own family tree?

Related to this, the Collingwood F/S (and now father / daughter) family tree has a few branches on it. There's an off-season task!

The 'Leigh Mathews' link in the McHale DNA thread looks to be sprouting branches.

Carlton: Michael Voss --> Leigh Matthews (Brisbane, 1999–2004) --> Robert Walls (Brisbane, 1992–1995) --> John Nicholls (Carlton, 1972–1975) --> Ken Hands (Carlton, 1959–1964) --> Perce Bentley (Carlton, 1945–1955) --> Dan Minogue (Richmond, 1925) --> Jock McHale (Collingwood, 1912–1916)
Collingwood: Craig McRae --> Leigh Matthews (Brisbane, 1999–2004) --> Allan Jeans (Hawthorn, 1981–1985) --> Jim Francis (St Kilda, 1959) --> Bill Twomey (Hawthorn, 1933–1934) --> Jock McHale (Collingwood, 1918–1922)
Essendon: Brad Scott --> Leigh Matthews (Brisbane, 1999–2004) --> Ken Judge (Hawthorn, 1997) --> Allan Jeans (Hawthorn, 1983–1986) --> Jim Francis (St Kilda, 1959) --> Bill Twomey (Hawthorn, 1933–1934) --> Jock McHale (Collingwood, 1918–1922)
